Model Year Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Information
Starting with the 2009 model year General Motors discontinued the production and mailing of printed Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) cards. The information needed to decipher the VIN codes for all GM vehicles will be provided electronically both in SI and on the web.
- GlobalConnect users, VIN information is available on the Service Tab of GM GlobalConnect.
- In the United States, VIN information is also available on the Service Tab of GM GlobalConnect.
- In Canada, VIN information is also available on GM GlobalConnect (navigate to Library, Service and then Vehicle Information).
- IPCWorld users, VIN information is available on the home page of IPCWorld.
VIN Information in SI
To access the VIN decoding information in SI:
- At the SI homepage, build a vehicle starting with the year, make and model. Click on Next .
- At Select a Vehicle Publication to View, click on Service Manual / Bulletins .
- At Select a Service Category Type, click on General Information .
- At Select a Service Category, click on General Information .
- At Select the Service Information Type Qualifier, click on Introduction .
- At Select a Document, click on Vehicle, Engine and Transmission ID and VIN Location Derivative and Usage
.
The Vehicle, Engine and Transmission ID and VIN Location Derivative and Usage Service Information Document will appear.
VIN Information On the Web
IMPORTANT:
VIN information on the web is available without any password, account or login requirements. This method of access should now be used as the primary source for government agencies, customers, independent repair facilities, and any other outside body that requires GM VIN decoding information.
IMPORTANT:
For dealers in Canada, VIN information is also available on GM GlobalConnect in English and French languages.
To access GM VIN information on the web:
- Direct your internet browser to: www.acdelcotechconnect.com .
- On the homepage, there is a link along the left side of the page labeled "GM VIN Information." Click the link (1) as shown in the graphic above.
- You may access VIN information ranging from the current model year, back to 1972 by simply clicking on the model year you wish to view from the displayed list. The information on the web is presented as an electronic version of the familiar VIN card in the identical format (.pdf file). If you do not have unlimited access to the web, you may print the VIN information or save the individual model year file to your hard drive for use offline in Windows® by selecting:
- "File"
- Then select "Save-As"
- Give the file a name, and save it to a preferred location on your hard drive.
