ISSUE

Jaguar Land Rover have received a small number of reports that the engine cooling fan operates at full duty cycle (maximum speed) when not expected, shortly after the engine is started. The issue normally occurs following a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software update on L494/L405 2020 MY AJ133 engine derivatives only.

CAUSE

Fan control operation incorrect within new engine calibration release.

ACTION

Please do not update the PCM software for L494/L405 2020MY AJ133 derivatives only, until further notice. A version 2 of this SSM will be published when the calibration issue has been resolved and TOPIx Cloud has been updated.

NOTE: For vehicles that have had a recent PCM software update and the cooling fans are operating at full duty cycle please carry out the following steps.
  1. Using TOPIx Cloud connect to the vehicle and select DIDS > PCM > in the drop-down menu note the software part number listed in row 0xF188.
  2. In the attachment check to see if the software part number is listed in column 'C if so, please submit a Technical Assistance reference 'PT160: D7u AJ133 Fan noise post Wave 3 Cal Update'. You will then receive a response when the new PCM calibration is available on TOPIx Cloud to update the vehicle to rectify the concern.
  3. If the software part number does not appear in the attached list, then continue with diagnosis using TOPIx Cloud and with reference to the TOPIx Workshop manual.
NOTE: Please do not carry out any further diagnosis or replace any components where the concern is identified and the vehicle PCM software part number is listed in the attachment, as this will not rectify the vehicle.
NOTE: This SSM will be updated in June 2023, when the calibration issue has been resolved and the PCM may be updated where required.
