CONDITION SUMMARY

SITUATION:

A 'rattle' noise may be evident from underneath the vehicle in the area of the exhaust downpipe.

CAUSE:

This may be caused by failed welds on the exhaust downpipe heat shield.

ACTION:

Should a Customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION

WARNING:
  • Do not use damaged or defective tools or equipment, particularly high speed equipment such as grinding wheels. A damaged grinding wheel can disintegrate without warning and cause serious injury.
  • Wear suitable eye protection when using grinding, chiseling, or sand blasting equipment.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 100-02: Jacking and Lifting - Lifting).
  2. Identify the location of the loose exhaust heat shield.

  3. Using a suitable tool, remove the three welds from the inside of the bend on the exhaust heat shield.

  4. Using a suitable tool, remove the three welds from the outside of the bend on the exhaust heat shield.

  5. Remove and discard both the upper and lower sections of the heat shield.

  6. Install the upper section of the new heat shield onto the downpipe.

  7. Install the lower section of the new heat shield onto the downpipe.

  8. Install the two inner hose clips over the two indented lines on the new heat shield.

    • Torque: 6 Nm 
  9. Install the two outer hose clips on the smaller diameter section of the heat shield.

    • Torque: 6 Nm
