The rear brake caliper piston dust boot is found to be split when the vehicle is having a routine service, or repair for any other reason. The split can be found anywhere around the circumference of the piston, although most likely to be seen through the caliper window adjacent to the piston.
CAUSE
Currently under investigation.
ACTION
If the rear brake caliper piston dust boot is found to be split and where possible, please record the following information...
Photos of the damage before the caliper is removed and the surrounding area to include the brake disc.
If the damage is noted only upon removal of the caliper, please supply photos of the damage at that point.
Reason for visit to the dealer.
Vehicle service history, including details of any previous rear brake pad changes.
Customer driving style, weather conditions, and any other environmental information which you think may help with this investigation.
Engineering require a small amount of undisturbed complete rear brake calipers returning. These should include the brake caliper assembly including the carrier, brake pads and pad warning sensor if fitted.
Please submit a Quality Concern for any issues found and a parts return request will be raised for any parts that fit the above criteria.
