ISSUE
A Technician will find the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) relevant to catalyst system efficiency, P0420-00 stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) could also be illuminated.
Affected vehicle vin ranges as follows -
Range Rover Sport (LW) AJ200P PHEV - 146054 onwards
Range Rover (LG) AJ200P PHEV - 343646 onwards
CAUSE
Under investigation.
ACTION
- Check the vehicle is within the VIN range stated above.
- Check the DTC stored in the PCM is as described in the issue section of this SSM.
- If DTC P0420-00 is stored in the PCM please replace the catalytic converter. Refer to TOPIx workshop manual - section 309-00F Exhaust System - Removal and Installation - Catalytic Converter.
- After replacing the catalytic converter clear the PCM fault codes.
- Clear PCM adaptions.
- Connect the JLR approved battery support unit.
- Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a new session.
- Follow the JLR approved diagnostic equipment prompts.
- Select 'ECU Diagnostics'.
- Select ' [PCM]'
- Select 'ECU Functions'
- Select 'Powertrain control module adaption clear'
- Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task.
- When all of the tasks are complete, exit the session.
- Disconnect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment and the JLR approved battery support unit.
- When the old catalytic converter is removed from the vehicle inspect the catalyst substrate.
- Raise a Quality Report attaching clear pictures of the front (upstream) face of the substrate which will be visible by looking into the catalytic converter from the engine side.
