ISSUE
When replacing a crankshaft sensor on a 3.0 TDV6 engine it may also be necessary to replace the trigger wheel dependent on the engine number/type of sensor fitted to the vehicle.
CAUSE
At engine number 0637660 the crankshaft position sensor was revised from a mono-directional type sensor to a bi-directional type sensor to support introduction of stop-start functionality. Only the bi-directional type trigger wheel and sensor is now available via service parts.
ACTION
Please check the engine number and original sensor fitted prior to carrying out a crankshaft sensor replacement on 3.0 TDV6. If the engine number is found to be pre 0637660 (9X2Q sensor fitted) then a new trigger wheel must also be fitted when the 9X2Q sensor is replaced.
Vehicles fitted with engines 0637660 onwards do not require a trigger wheel when the crankshaft sensor is replaced.
Refer to attached file for graphic illustration of the information outlined below.
A mono directional sensor will have 9X2Q engraved into the sensor body, If a 9X2Q sensor is replaced the trigger wheel must be changed.
A bi directional sensor will have CK5Q engraved into the sensor body.
If a CK5Q sensor is replaced there is no requirement to change the trigger wheel.
Part Numbers (for reference only)
LR049872 - Crankshaft Sensor
LR035564 - Trigger Wheel (only required on engine numbers pre 0637660 where a 9X2Q sensor is replaced)
