Causes

  • Open or short in the left front inlet control wiring
  • Poor or corroded connector at the inlet control
  • Failed inlet control solenoid/valve/actuator
  • Faulty control module or driver transistor
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay supplying the circuit
  • Contamination, mechanical blockage or internal valve failure

Symptoms

  • Warning lamp or message illuminated (ABS, suspension, HVAC or system-specific light)
  • Reduced or loss of function at left front corner (reduced braking modulation, suspension height/ride change, airflow change depending on system)
  • Unusual noise (clicking or buzzing) from the left front area
  • Intermittent operation or stuck valve/actuator
  • Possible fluid leak or visible contamination around the valve

What to check

  • Scan for C0010 and read freeze frame / related codes; check for stored pending or permanent variants
  • Perform visual inspection of left front inlet control, connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or fluid intrusion
  • Verify fuses and relays that feed the inlet control circuit
  • Backprobe the connector with the system at the appropriate key/run state to check supply voltage and ground
  • Measure actuator/solenoid resistance (compare to manufacturer spec) and test for continuity to module
  • Wiggle harness while observing live data or scan tool to reproduce fault

Signal parameters

  • Control supply voltage (ignition on): typically battery voltage (~11–14 V) at power pin (vehicle-specific)
  • Control signal: driver or pulse-width signal typically 0–12 V or 0–14 V depending on system; some systems use low-voltage (0–5 V) command
  • Solenoid/actuator coil resistance: commonly in the range 5–50 ohms (manufacturer-specific — compare to spec sheet)
  • Expected current draw when activated: varies by device; an abnormal high or zero current indicates short/open
  • Ground continuity: near 0 ohms from component ground to chassis ground when module commands ground

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve stored and pending codes, note freeze frame data and any related codes (ABS, suspension, HVAC, U-codes).
  2. Visual inspection: check connector for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress, and check harness for chafing or physical damage.
  3. Verify power and ground: with ignition ON (and system commanded if required), backprobe connector to confirm battery voltage at supply pin and a good ground reference.
  4. Measure component resistance: disconnect connector and measure solenoid/actuator coil resistance; compare to manufacturer specification. Replace if open or out of range.
  5. Command the inlet control on/off with a scan tool (if supported) and observe operation; listen for clicking or movement and monitor voltage/current draw.
  6. Check harness continuity: if component is open or no command present, perform continuity test from module output pin to component pin and inspect for short to ground or battery.

Likely causes

  • Corroded/loose connector at the inlet control
  • Failed inlet control solenoid/actuator
  • Open or short circuit in the harness to the left front inlet control
  • Faulty module output (driver) or blown fuse

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Left Front Inlet Control circuit fault detected (open/short/implausible response). Service wiring, connector, component and controlling module as required.
