Page language: EN

Causes

  • Front/rear camera module fault or internal error
  • Camera lens obscured, misaligned or physically damaged
  • Steering angle sensor (SAS) incorrect or not calibrated
  • Yaw rate/roll/pitch sensor (IMU) fault or drift
  • Wheel speed/ABS sensor inconsistencies affecting vehicle kinematics
  • Faulty ADAS/BCM/ECU software or corrupted firmware

Symptoms

  • Dashboard message or malfunction indicator: “Lane Prediction Error” or similar
  • Lane Keep Assist / Lane Departure Warning disabled or unavailable
  • Autonomous lane-centering/steering assist reduced or inactive
  • Inconsistent or no lane markings shown on ADAS display
  • System may operate intermittently or give false alerts

What to check

  • Retrieve all stored and pending DTCs and freeze-frame data with a capable scan tool
  • Check for related network codes (U-codes) that indicate CAN communication problems
  • Visual inspection of forward camera: lens cleanliness, mounting alignment, damage, moisture ingress
  • Inspect connectors, wiring harness and shielding for camera, SAS and ADAS ECU for corrosion, loose pins or damage
  • Measure battery/resting voltage and check charging system for stability
  • Check steering angle sensor value with wheels straight (live data) and verify it reads ~0°; confirm SAS calibration status

Signal parameters

  • Forward camera status / health flag (OK/FAULT)
  • Camera video stream present (yes/no) and lane detection confidence (%)
  • Steering angle sensor angle (degrees) and torque/enable status
  • Yaw rate (°/s) and lateral acceleration (m/s²)
  • Wheel speed sensors (front/rear) and vehicle speed (km/h or mph)
  • ADAS ECU error counters and CAN bus error counts

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect manufacturer-capable diagnostic tool; record all C and U codes and freeze-frame data
  2. Clear codes and perform self-test; see if C1639 returns — note conditions when it reappears
  3. Perform visual inspection of forward camera lens, housing and mounting; clean lens and reseat connectors
  4. Check and repair any damaged wiring or connectors between camera, steering angle sensor and ADAS ECU
  5. Verify steering wheels are straight; read steering angle live data and perform SAS calibration per service procedure if out of center
  6. Check IMU/yaw sensor data for plausibility and perform required calibration if directed by service manual
  7. Verify wheel speed sensors and ABS-related codes; repair if inconsistent speeds are present
  8. Update ADAS/Camera/ECU software to latest level if available; re-flash as required
  9. Perform ADAS camera and sensor calibration (static or dynamic) following manufacturer procedure after repairs or software updates
  10. Road test in safe conditions to validate lane detection and that the code does not return; re-scan and document results
  11. If repeated faults point to a single module (camera or ADAS ECU), replace module and repeat calibration and verification steps

Likely causes

  • Contaminated, obstructed or misaligned forward camera
  • Camera module internal fault or failed camera calibration
  • Steering angle sensor not centered or calibration lost
  • Intermittent CAN communication to the lane prediction/ADAS ECU

Fault status

⚠️ Status
