Camera Washer Actuator A

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Open or short in actuator wiring harness
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay for washer circuit
  • Faulty camera washer actuator (motor/solenoid)
  • Corroded or loose connector(s) at the actuator or module
  • Control module output driver fault
  • Mechanical blockage preventing actuator movement

Symptoms

  • Camera washer does not operate when selected
  • Intermittent washer function (works sometimes)
  • Washer runs continuously or will not stop
  • Washer motor noise without fluid being sprayed
  • Warning or message regarding camera cleanliness or washer fault

What to check

  • Verify washer fluid level and reservoir condition
  • Listen for actuator/motor operation when activating the washer
  • Check related fuses and relays for continuity and proper operation
  • Inspect wiring and connector for corrosion, damage or loose pins
  • Measure supply voltage at actuator connector while activating
  • Scan for additional related codes and module communication errors

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to actuator: ~12 V battery when washer is commanded
  • Ground/return continuity: near 0 ohms to chassis ground
  • Actuator coil/motor resistance: typically low (approx. 2–30 ohms) — vehicle-specific
  • Command signal: switched battery or PWM from module when activated
  • No-load current: actuator motor typically draws up to several amps when running

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify the vehicle battery is charged and washer fluid is present. Attempt to activate the camera washer and note behavior (no operation, intermittent, continuous).
  2. Check related fuses and relays; replace any blown fuses and retest. Inspect relay operation if used in the circuit.
  3. With washer switch activated, measure voltage at the actuator power pin(s). Expect battery voltage when commanded. No voltage indicates upstream wiring/fuse/relay issue or module not commanding.
  4. Check ground at the actuator connector for good continuity to chassis ground. Repair any high-resistance grounds.
  5. Disconnect actuator and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to manufacturer spec (typical low ohms). Infinite/very high resistance indicates open motor/coil; very low/short to ground indicates short.
  6. Apply bench 12 V power briefly to the actuator (if removed) to confirm operation and that it is not mechanically seized. Observe current draw; excessive current indicates mechanical bind or seized motor.
  7. Inspect connector and wiring harness for corrosion, pin damage, or shorts where the harness flexes. Repair or replace damaged wiring/connector as needed.
  8. If wiring and actuator test good, check the control module output driver using a scope or back-probing for expected command signal (switched 12 V or PWM). If module output absent or abnormal, consult module diagnostics/repair procedures.
  9. Clear codes, perform washer activation cycles, and verify the code does not return. Road-test/operate camera washer to confirm repair.

Likely causes

  • Failed camera washer actuator (motor or internal switch)
  • Open or corroded connector at the actuator
  • Broken wiring (open/short to ground or battery) to actuator
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay supplying the washer circuit
  • Faulty module output or software/firmware issue (less common)
