Causes

Symptoms

What to check

  • Verify washer fluid reservoir level and that lines/nozzles are not clogged
  • Visual inspection of wiring harness, connectors, and ground for corrosion or damage
  • Check fuse(s) and relay(s) for the washer pump/actuator
  • Operate washer while listening for motor operation and observing nozzle output
  • Measure voltage at actuator connector with washer command active
  • Measure resistance of the actuator motor winding with battery disconnected

Signal parameters

  • Battery supply voltage at actuator connector when washer command active: ~11–14 V
  • Motor winding resistance (typical): low ohms (usually 1–10 Ω) — consult OEM spec
  • Command signal type: switched battery feed or PCM/BCM output; may be PWM
  • Current draw when running: motor-specific; typically
  • Continuity between actuator ground and chassis ground: near 0 Ω

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify symptom: confirm camera washer does not run and check fluid level; inspect nozzle for clogging and clear if needed.
  2. Visual inspection: examine actuator, harness, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or loose pins; repair or clean as required.
  3. Check protection devices: verify fuse(s) and related relay operation; replace if blown/faulty and retest.
  4. Backprobe actuator connector: with vehicle key ON and washer command active, measure voltage at the supply terminal and verify ground continuity. If voltage present and ground good, but no motor operation, suspect motor failure.
  5. Measure motor resistance with battery disconnected. Very high/OL indicates open winding; near short indicates shorted winding. Compare to spec if available.
  6. Bench-test actuator/motor: disconnect connector and apply 12 V directly to the motor terminals to confirm operation. If motor runs off-vehicle, problem is wiring/control; if it does not, replace actuator.
  7. If no supply voltage at actuator during command, trace back to relay/module: check relay control, fuse feed, and BCM/controls for output using wiring diagrams and module tests.
  8. Inspect for mechanical binding: remove pump/actuator and verify shafts and impellers rotate freely; clear debris or replace if seized.
  9. After repair, clear DTCs, cycle washer several times and re-scan to confirm code does not return. Perform wiggle tests on repaired harnesses to check for intermittent faults.

  • Washer motor seized or burned (high current or no rotation)
  • Blown fuse or failed relay feeding the actuator
  • Wiring harness damage (chafe, pinched, or water intrusion)
  • Mechanical jam in pump, linkage, or nozzle
