Causes

  • Open or shorted video signal wire (Video C)
  • Poor or corroded connector at camera/module/AV unit
  • Loss of power or ground to the camera/video source
  • Failed camera or external video source
  • Faulty multimedia/infotainment control module or video interface
  • Software/configuration error or module communication fault

Symptoms

  • No image on display for the associated camera or video source
  • Intermittent or distorted video (static, rolling, or color issues)
  • System messages or warning indicating video input fault
  • Other camera inputs working while Video C fails
  • Possible related stored codes for camera or AV module communication

What to check

  • Read and record all stored DTCs and freeze frame data with a diagnostic scanner.
  • Visually inspect connectors, pins and harness for corrosion, damage or water ingress at camera, junctions, and the infotainment/module.
  • Verify related fuses and power supplies for the camera/video source.
  • Confirm vehicle software/firmware level and any applicable technical service bulletins (TSBs).
  • Backprobe the power, ground and video signal wire at the camera and at the module while operating the camera (if safe).
  • Wiggle test harnesses and connectors while watching for changes in signal or DTC status.

Signal parameters

  • Analog composite video (if fitted): approximately 1.0 Vpp into 75 ohms; nominal DC reference near 0 V.
  • Digital video (LVDS/MIPI/serial): differential high-speed lines — expect several hundred mV differential; requires oscilloscope/LVDS probe and known-good waveform.
  • Camera power: typical 12 V feed range ~11–14 V or regulated 5 V feed ~4.5–5.5 V depending on system — check service data for exact values.
  • Ground continuity: low resistance to vehicle ground (
  • Connector pin continuity: near 0 Ω for power/ground, video coax should be ~75 Ω characteristic impedance for composite systems.

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and confirm B1010 and any related codes. Note freeze-frame and occurrence conditions.
  2. Check for TSBs or software updates for the multimedia system; apply updates if recommended.
  3. Visually inspect connectors, seals and wiring for the camera and at the multimedia unit. Repair obvious damage and reseat connectors.
  4. Verify fuses and power feeds for the camera/video source; measure camera supply voltage with connector connected and engine/accessory power on as required.
  5. Backprobe the video signal wire at the multimedia unit and at the camera while activating the camera. For analog: measure ~1 Vpp composite. For digital: use an oscilloscope with appropriate probe or known-good interface tester.
  6. Check ground continuity from camera ground to chassis ground and to the multimedia module ground.
  7. Perform a wiggle test of harnesses/connectors while watching the video or monitoring live data; note any intermittent faults.
  8. If wiring and power/ground are good but no valid video, substitute a known-good camera or video source (or substitute the multimedia module if available) to isolate the faulty component.
  9. If a module replacement is required, follow manufacturer programming/coding procedures and erase DTCs. Re-test all camera/video functions.
  10. After repair, clear codes and test drive/operate to confirm the fault does not return.

Likely causes

  • Damaged or loose connector at the camera or AV module
  • Open/short in the video signal cable to Video Input C
  • Failed camera or video source
  • Blown fuse or loss of power/ground to camera
  • Faulty multimedia control unit or video interface
