Causes

  • Faulty or worn screen on/off switch
  • Open or shorted wiring between switch and control module
  • Poor connector connection, corrosion or water ingress
  • Blown fuse or poor power/ignition feed to switch
  • Faulty ground at switch or module
  • Intermittent CAN/LIN communication fault or software error in infotainment/module

Symptoms

  • Screen does not turn on when switch is pressed
  • Screen does not turn off or is intermittent
  • No response from screen button, other controls may still function
  • Related infotainment errors or message on dash
  • Possible loss of associated features (audio, navigation) when screen is off

What to check

  • Read stored DTCs and freeze-frame data with an appropriate scan tool
  • Confirm if code is permanent or intermittent by clearing and retesting
  • Visually inspect switch, bezel, and harness for damage, corrosion, or moisture
  • Check related fuses and power supplies for continuity and correct voltage
  • Wiggle test harness while operating switch to look for intermittent faults
  • Check module grounds and battery/ignition feed voltages

Signal parameters

  • Battery/ignition supply at switch (ignition on): approx. 11–14 V
  • Switch closed continuity: near 0 Ω (multimeter), open when released
  • Switch output signal to module: either supply switched (0/12 V) or low-voltage logic (0–5 V) depending on design
  • Ground continuity from switch housing to chassis: near 0 Ω
  • Expected CAN/LIN frames for infotainment present when ignition on (no bus errors)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner, record all codes and freeze-frame data, then clear codes.
  2. Attempt to reproduce the fault by operating the screen on/off switch; note behavior and whether code returns.
  3. Visually inspect switch and surrounding trim for damage, signs of water ingress or corrosion; check connector seating and pins.
  4. Check fuses related to infotainment and instrument cluster; replace any blown fuses and retest.
  5. With vehicle safe and battery connected, backprobe switch connector: verify reference voltage present and that switch toggles the expected signal (voltage or continuity) to the module.
  6. Perform continuity and resistance checks on wiring between the switch and the control module; repair any open/short circuits.
  7. Check and clean grounds for the switch and module; verify good chassis ground.
  8. If wiring and switch test good, monitor module inputs with the scan tool while operating the switch to verify the module receives the command.
  9. If module does not receive switch input despite correct switch/wiring, consider module software update or module replacement after confirming with manufacturer procedures.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and confirm normal operation and that B1015 does not return.

Likely causes

  • Defective switch or internal contacts failed
  • Damaged connector or pin corrosion at switch harness
  • Broken or chafed wiring causing open or short
  • Fuse or ignition feed missing to switch
  • Intermittent module input (bad ground or module fault)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Body control/infotainment module detected a malfunction in the screen on/off switch circuit. The screen may not respond to the on/off command.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
