Causes

  • Blown fuse or faulty relay for seat heating circuit
  • Open or shorted wiring between seat heater element and control module
  • Faulty left front seat heater element (broken/shorted heating wire)
  • Defective seat heater switch or control unit
  • Poor connector contact, corrosion or water ingress in the seat or harness
  • Control module internal fault or software error

Symptoms

  • Left front seat heater does not warm or warms intermittently
  • Seat heater indicator lamp off or flashing when selected
  • Heater stuck on or uncontrollable heat level (rare)
  • Diagnostic warning or stored fault message related to seat heating
  • Possible mild burning or electrical smell (if short or overheating)

What to check

  • Scan vehicle and confirm B1032 and any related codes; note freeze-frame/live data
  • Inspect seat heater fuse(s) and related relays; verify fuse continuity
  • Visually inspect seat connector(s) and wiring harness for damage, corrosion or water
  • Operate seat heater controls and observe indicator lamps and scan-tool live data
  • Measure voltage at the seat heater connector with heater ON and OFF
  • Measure resistance of the heater element (seat disconnected) and compare to expected range

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to seat heater: ~12 V when heater is switched ON
  • Heater element resistance: typically low single-digit ohms (varies by design; expected to be low, not infinite)
  • Control signal: on/off or PWM from seat control module (scan tool may show commanded state)
  • Connector pin continuity to control module: near zero ohms (short length) or consistent with wiring length

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect an appropriate diagnostic scan tool; read and record B1032 and any other stored codes and live data.
  2. Confirm operation of the seat heater via controls and observe scan-tool outputs for the left front seat circuit (command/state).
  3. Inspect fuses/relays for the seat heater circuits; replace any blown fuses and re-test.
  4. Visually inspect connectors at the seat, under-dash harness, and B-pillar routing for damage, corrosion, or water ingress; repair as necessary.
  5. With seat disconnected from module, measure resistance of the left front heater element (cushion and/or backrest). An open (infinite) reading indicates a broken element; a very low or near-zero may indicate a short.
  6. With connector connected, measure voltage at the seat heater supply pin with heater commanded ON. No supply → supply/wiring/fuse/relay issue. Constant supply when OFF → control module/relay stuck.
  7. Check continuity between the seat heater connector and the control module connector to identify open or high-resistance wiring.
  8. If wiring and connectors check OK but element fails or shows abnormal resistance, replace the faulty heater mat/seat cushion module.
  9. If heater element and wiring are good, test/replace the seat heater switch or seat control module per manufacturer procedures.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and perform a full functional test; road/test or cycle functions to ensure code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Open or damaged heater element in the seat cushion/backrest
  • Faulty wiring or connector to the left front seat (chafed harness, disconnected plug)
  • Failed seat heater switch or seat control module
  • Blown fuse or intermittent supply/ground

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Left front seat heater circuit fault detected (B1032). Possible open/short, failed heater element, faulty switch or module, or wiring/connectivity issue.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
