Causes

  • Open or short in antenna power/ground wiring
  • Corroded or loose antenna connector
  • Antenna element damaged or detached
  • Faulty intermediate amplifier or antenna module
  • Faulty body/infotainment/telematics control module
  • Water ingress or mechanical damage in the roof/headliner area

Symptoms

  • Reduced or no radio reception (AM/FM/DAB/Satellite)
  • Loss or intermittent operation of GPS/navigation or telematics
  • Keyless entry/passive entry or alarm range reduced or not working
  • Bluetooth/phone hands-free or remote services unreliable
  • Diagnostic module reports antenna fault lamp or stored DTC

What to check

  • Read all related stored DTCs from infotainment, telematics, gateway and body modules
  • Check vehicle battery voltage and main fuses supplying antenna/infotainment
  • Visually inspect antenna connector(s) and wiring at headliner/roof antenna location
  • Check for signs of water ingress, corrosion or physical damage in roof/headliner
  • Verify software/firmware version of related modules and recent module reflashes

Signal parameters

  • Antenna supply voltage: ~12 V (check with ignition on where applicable)
  • Antenna ground continuity: near 0 ohms to chassis
  • Coax continuity: low ohms, no short to chassis
  • RF signal level: antenna output in dBm (depends on radio/diagnostic tool)
  • CAN/LIN messages: body/infotainment module reporting antenna status or errors
  • Module diagnostic status bits: antenna present/absent, amplifier enabled/disabled

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a scan tool to confirm B10C8 and read freeze frame/related codes from all networked modules (infotainment, telematics, gateway). Note any other communication or antenna codes.
  2. Verify vehicle battery voltage and inspect relevant fuses/relays for infotainment/antenna power circuits.
  3. Perform a visual inspection of the roof/headliner area. Look for water stains, corrosion, damaged connectors or previous repair evidence.
  4. Access the internal central antenna connector. With connector disconnected, inspect pins for corrosion, bent pins, or foreign material. Re-seat connector and check for intermittent change in status.
  5. Measure supply voltage and ground at the antenna connector with ignition in the correct state. Confirm amplifier enable voltage if applicable.
  6. Check coax continuity between antenna and radio/infotainment module for open or short to chassis using an ohmmeter. If equipped, measure RF level with an appropriate RF diagnostic tool.
  7. If wiring and power are good but no RF/signal is present, suspect antenna element or internal amplifier failure—replace antenna assembly or amplifier per manufacturer procedure.
  8. If replacement antenna does not clear the DTC, inspect/replace the infotainment/telematics module or check for software updates and module reprogramming as directed by the manufacturer.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and verify system operation under normal conditions and perform a road/test validation of affected functions (radio, navigation, passive entry, telematics).

Likely causes

  • Disconnected or corroded antenna coax or multi-pin connector at headliner
  • Internal antenna amplifier failure (no power or no RF output)
  • Pinched or chafed antenna cable during previous roof/headliner work
  • Failed body domain module not powering or reading antenna
