HUMMER B — Body

Driver Deployment Loop Resistance Low

Brand: HUMMER
Type: B — Body
Views: UK: 4 EN: 14 RU: 6
AI status
Completed
ready
Completed 100%
Page language: EN

Causes

  • Shorted driver airbag squib wiring (short to ground or B+)
  • Corroded or damaged driver airbag connector
  • Faulty or shorted airbag squib (driver airbag module)
  • Damaged or worn steering column clock spring (spiral cable)
  • Improper or damaged aftermarket installations (alarms, stereos) tapping SRS circuits
  • Previous collision repair with improper wiring repair

Symptoms

  • SRS / airbag warning lamp illuminated on dash
  • Possible disablement of driver airbag deployment until repaired
  • Stored DTC(s) related to driver airbag circuit
  • Intermittent SRS lamp depending on steering wheel position or vibration

What to check

  • Perform standard SRS safety: disable battery negative and wait required time per vehicle procedure before touching SRS components
  • Scan for additional SRS codes and capture freeze-frame data
  • Visual inspection of driver airbag connector, steering column harness, and clock spring for damage or corrosion
  • Measure resistance of driver airbag squib with airbag module disconnected (follow vehicle service manual for connector location and safe procedure)
  • Check continuity from squib positive/negative to chassis ground and chassis B+ for unintended shorts
  • Inspect for aftermarket devices or recent repairs in steering column or dash area

Signal parameters

  • Expected driver airbag squib resistance: typically a low but finite value (commonly ~2–5 ohms depending on model) — consult vehicle spec
  • Low resistance condition: measured value significantly lower than specification (approaching 0–1 ohm) indicating a short
  • Open circuit: very high/infinite resistance indicates open circuit (different DTC)
  • SRS module monitors circuit voltage/resistance and flags low-resistance condition when below threshold

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Safety first: disconnect negative battery terminal and wait the manufacturer-specified time for SRS capacitors to discharge before any connector work.
  2. Retrieve/record all SRS codes and freeze-frame data with a capable scan tool. Note any related codes.
  3. Visually inspect driver airbag connector (under steering wheel), wiring harness to the steering column, and clock spring for chafing, pinching, corrosion, or melted insulation.
  4. With battery still disconnected, disconnect the driver airbag module connector. Measure resistance across the squib terminals at the connector per service manual. Compare to factory specification.
  5. If resistance is lower than spec, check for short to ground or B+ by measuring continuity from each squib conductor to chassis ground and to vehicle power. Repair any shorts.
  6. If circuit wiring and connectors check okay, remove/inspect the clock spring. Perform bench resistance checks of the clock spring assembly if procedures/specs available.
  7. If wiring and clock spring are good, consider that the airbag squib itself may be shorted — replace the driver airbag module per safety procedures.
  8. Repair or replace the faulty component (repair wiring, clean/replace connectors, replace clock spring or airbag). Clear codes and perform SRS system checks and any required steering angle/airbag system initialization.
  9. Re-scan and test-drive as required to confirm the SRS lamp remains off and no related codes return.

Likely causes

  • Shorted wiring or contaminated connector at the driver airbag harness
  • Faulty clock spring causing a short in the steering wheel circuit
  • Damaged/shorted driver airbag squib (module)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
SRS control module detected abnormally low resistance in driver deployment (airbag) loop — possible short or faulty component in driver-side squib circuit.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.0-3.0 hours
