Causes

  • Intermittent or low supply voltage to the reporting module
  • Poor or corroded ground(s)
  • Damaged wiring harness or chafed insulation
  • Poor connector contacts or water ingress at connectors
  • Failed sensor or actuator on the affected circuit
  • Faulty control module or internal module fault

Symptoms

  • Illumination of one or more warning lights related to body systems
  • Loss or intermittent operation of the associated body function (locks, lighting, seat/heater, etc.)
  • Stored or repeating diagnostic trouble codes for the same circuit
  • Erratic behavior of related systems or failed diagnostics during module communications

What to check

  • Read DTCs and freeze-frame data with a capable OEM-level scan tool; note which module reported B1244
  • Check for additional related codes (U- or other B-codes) and pending/intermittent flags
  • Visually inspect harnesses and connectors for damage, corrosion, moisture or rodent damage in areas related to the affected system
  • Verify battery voltage and charging system before performing diagnostics (low battery can cause spurious codes)
  • Check fuses and relays for the affected circuit
  • Backprobe connector pins to verify supply voltage and ground at the module and affected components

Signal parameters

  • Module supply voltage (expected ~12 V with key on)
  • Module ground continuity to chassis (near 0 Ω)
  • Sensor/actuator signal voltage or resistance (refer to OEM spec for component)
  • CAN high/low voltages (nominal ~2.5 V idle) and bus activity when active
  • LIN line voltage and wake/sleep behavior (if applicable)
  • Pulse-width or frequency for actuators where applicable (compare to OEM values)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use an OEM-level diagnostic tool; read and record all stored, pending and history codes and freeze-frame data. Note which module reported B1244 and any timestamps.
  2. Confirm whether the code is current or historic: clear codes, perform work cycle/drive cycle and see if B1244 returns.
  3. Visually inspect wiring, connectors, and components for the affected circuit (water, corrosion, damage). Repair any obvious issues and retest.
  4. Verify battery voltage and grounding. Repair any low-voltage or poor-ground conditions before continuing.
  5. With the ignition on, backprobe relevant connector pins to verify power, ground and signal presence according to the OEM wiring diagram. Compare readings to factory values.
  6. Check data bus communications (CAN/LIN) using a scope or scan tool. Look for missing messages, errors, or abnormal voltages.
  7. Perform wiggle tests on harnesses/connectors while monitoring live data to try to reproduce the fault.
  8. If measurements and communications are within specification, consult manufacturer TSBs and wiring diagrams — perform module reprogramming or software update if recommended.
  9. Replace only verified faulty components (sensor, actuator, or module). After any repair or replacement, clear codes and complete the required relearn or calibration procedures and verify repairs by re-running the same tests and a road/operation cycle.
  10. If the fault persists after exhaustive wiring and component checks, consult dealer-level technical support for advanced module bench testing or module replacement guidance.

Likely causes

  • Corroded/loose connector at the module or the affected component
  • Open or short in a wiring harness (pin damage, chafe)
  • Poor ground returning the circuit to the vehicle body/chassis
  • Failed sensor or actuator on the specific sub-circuit
  • Intermittent CAN/LIN communication to the reporting module

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Body-system fault stored by vehicle control module. May be active, intermittent or historic—refer to freeze-frame and time‑stamp data.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.0 hours
