Code
B1326
MITSUBISHI
B — Body
TN latch sensor:Close&Open=ON
AI status
Completed
Completed
100%
Causes
- Faulty TN latch position sensor (internal short or stuck contacts)
- Short between the Open and Close sensor circuits (short to power or short between wires)
- Open/short in harness or connector corrosion/water ingress at latch
- Poor or missing ground at latch or BCM
- Faulty Body Control Module (BCM) or input driver circuit
- Latch mechanical failure causing sensor to be held between positions
Symptoms
- Trunk/tailgate open/close status incorrect on dash
- Inability to lock or unlock trunk/tailgate via central locking or key fob
- Warning message or lamp related to tailgate/trunk status
- Intermittent or permanent fault code stored and possible disabling of automatic functions
- Tailgate may not latch or may behave unpredictably
What to check
- Scan vehicle and confirm B1326 is active; record freeze frame data and any additional body or communication codes
- Visually inspect latch assembly, connector, and harness for damage, corrosion, or water ingress
- Check that related fuses and BCM power/ground are present and good
- Wiggle test harness while watching live data to try to reproduce the fault
- Measure voltage and continuity at the latch connector with connector disconnected and key on
- Inspect BCM input pin for the latch circuit for correct voltage and no short to other circuits
Signal parameters
- Sensor type: discrete on/off switches for Close and Open (two separate circuits)
- Expected at sensor connector with latch closed: Close circuit = ON (approx. switched to ground or 0–1 V depending on design) and Open circuit = OFF (open/high or battery voltage via pull-up)
- Expected with latch open: Open circuit = ON and Close circuit = OFF
- Typical voltage ranges (vehicle-specific): low ~0–1 V for active/grounded, high ~9–12 V for inactive/pulled-up (or 0/5 V on some systems). Both circuits should not be ON simultaneously
Diagnostic algorithm
- Confirm DTC and conditions: clear codes, cycle power, and operate latch to attempt to repeat B1326
- Perform detailed visual inspection of trunk/tailgate latch, actuator, connector, and wiring harness for damage or water intrusion
- Disconnect latch connector and inspect pins for corrosion, bent pins, or contamination; repair/clean as necessary
- With connector disconnected, measure resistance/continuity between the two sensor signal pins — there should not be a short. Also check each signal to chassis ground and battery positive to locate shorts or opens
- Reconnect and backprobe the harness at the latch connector. With key on, observe voltages on Open and Close circuits while operating latch. Verify they follow expected active/inactive levels and never both active simultaneously
- If short/high resistance present in harness, isolate and repair (repair wiring, replace damaged section, secure grommets through hinge area)
- If harness checks good but sensor signals are incorrect at the latch connector, replace the latch sensor/assembly
- If latch and wiring are good but incorrect at BCM input, inspect BCM connector, pins, and ground. Check for short or damaged pins. If BCM input driver is suspected, confirm vehicle manufacturer procedures for BCM testing or replacement
- After repairs, clear codes and perform functional test and durability checks (open/close cycles, road test if applicable) to confirm fault does not return
Likely causes
- Corroded/contaminated connector at latch causing bridging between contacts
- Damaged wiring harness near trunk/tailgate hinge (chafing) shorting the two sensor circuits together
- Failed latch sensor switch internally (contacts welded or shorted)
- Water intrusion into latch assembly causing intermittent shorts
Fault status
Status
TN latch sensor reports both Close and Open = ON simultaneously. Indicates conflicting signals on the latch position inputs (possible short, sensor failure, or wiring/connector issue).
Repair difficulty: Medium
Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.0 hours
