Passenger door open circuit

Brand: ALFA ROMEO
Type: B — Body

Completed 100%
Page language: EN

Causes

  • Broken or chafed wiring in the passenger door harness (common at door hinge/boot)
  • Corroded or loose connector at the door switch/latch or BCM
  • Faulty passenger door switch or latch assembly
  • Poor ground at door or BCM
  • Blown fuse or damaged power supply related to the door circuit
  • Intermittent BCM/comfort module fault or firmware issue

Symptoms

  • Passenger door status incorrectly indicated (open warning light or message)
  • Interior dome/courtesy light stays on or does not respond to door
  • Central locking/remote functions not working on passenger door
  • Possible battery drain with vehicle off if circuit stuck open/closed
  • Related comfort features (alarm, welcome lights) may behave incorrectly

What to check

  • Scan vehicle and read live data for passenger door open/closed status
  • Visually inspect door sill harness, boot/boot grommet and connectors for damage or corrosion
  • Inspect door latch and switch for signs of wear, contamination or physical damage
  • Verify relevant fuses and power supply to the BCM and door circuit
  • Perform wiggle test while monitoring live data to see if status changes
  • Measure continuity and resistance of switch circuit from latch to BCM

Signal parameters

  • Expected door switch signal: two-state digital (0 V = closed/grounded or 12 V = open depending on vehicle design); consult vehicle wiring diagram
  • Typical open-circuit reading: infinite resistance / OL between switch terminal and BCM
  • Typical closed switch resistance: near 0 ohms
  • CAN or BCM message: door open status bit should change between 0/1 in live data
  • Supply voltage at switch connector: approx. battery voltage when the circuit is pulled high (if switch is pulled-up)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect scanner and confirm B1327 and any related door codes; record live data for passenger door status.
  2. Visually inspect passenger door hinge area harness, rubber grommet and connectors for abrasion, pin damage or corrosion.
  3. With connector disconnected, check switch terminals for corrosion, bent pins or moisture; reseat and clean as needed.
  4. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the door switch terminal and the BCM input; operate the latch/switch while probing to observe changes.
  5. Backprobe the switch connector while operating the door. Verify expected voltage change or ground switching per the wiring diagram.
  6. Perform a wiggle test on the harness while monitoring live data to reproduce intermittent faults. Pay attention to the hinge area.
  7. Check and clean relevant grounds and verify fuse/power supply to the circuit.
  8. If wiring and connectors are good but the switch is not changing state, replace the passenger door latch/switch assembly and retest.
  9. If fault persists after switch and wiring repairs, test or consult BCM diagnostics (software update, module replacement) as a last step.
  10. Clear codes and verify repair by cycling door and rechecking live data and road test as appropriate.

Likely causes

  • Wire break in door hinge area due to repeated door opening/closing
  • Corroded connector pins at the door jamb switch or latch
  • Failed door latch switch (mechanical/electrical)
  • Loose or contaminated ground connection on body control module
  • Failed BCM (less common) or software anomaly

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Passenger door open circuit detected — BCM not receiving expected signal from passenger door switch/latch. Code stored when circuit open or signal out-of-range is present.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-1.5 hours
