Causes

  • Camera mounting bracket knocked out of position (impact or vibration)
  • Camera module physically shifted or damaged
  • Loose, corroded or damaged camera connector or wiring
  • Incorrectly installed replacement camera or windscreen
  • Vehicle ride height/suspension not at specification during calibration
  • Software/firmware mismatch or calibration data corrupted

Symptoms

  • Forward/rear camera image tilted or horizon not level
  • ADAS warnings or message about camera alignment or calibration
  • Park/Surround-view, lane-keep or other camera-based features degraded or disabled
  • Stored diagnostic trouble code B134B
  • Possible intermittent camera feed or blank camera view

What to check

  • Connect appropriate diagnostic tool and read freeze frame and full fault list
  • Inspect camera lens, housing and mounting bracket for damage, play or movement
  • Visually inspect connectors and wiring for corrosion, water ingress, damage or poor seating
  • Confirm vehicle ride height and tyre pressures are correct; check suspension for sag/damage
  • Check for recent windscreen, bumper or camera replacement and verify correct part fitted
  • Verify correct software/firmware levels and check for relevant technical service bulletins (TSBs)

Signal parameters

  • Camera pitch (vertical) offset value / angle reading
  • Camera roll/yaw values if available
  • Calibration status flag (calibrated/not calibrated)
  • Camera module supply voltage and ground integrity
  • Camera image feed quality metrics (signal/noise, sync)
  • CAN/diagnostic messages between camera module and BCM/ECU

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record all stored codes and freeze-frame data with a factory-level diagnostic tool. 2. Inspect the camera, housing and mounting for physical damage or movement; test for axial play. 3. Inspect and secure the electrical connector; check for corrosion, bent pins or water ingress. Wiggle-test while monitoring live data for dropouts. 4. Verify vehicle is on level ground, correct tyre pressures and normal ride height. Repair any suspension issues first. 5. Check camera mounting fasteners and alignment marks; tighten or re-fit bracket per manufacturer procedure if loose. 6. Using the OEM diagnostic calibrations routine, attempt vertical (pitch) calibration. Record any tool error codes/messages. 7. If calibration fails and hardware checks are good, confirm camera and ECU software levels and update per manufacturer guidance. 8. If guided calibration continues to fail, consider replacing the camera module or bracket and repeat calibration. 9. After repair/calibration, clear codes and verify system operation with test drive and re-check live parameters.

Likely causes

  • Mechanical shift of camera bracket after windscreen or bumper work
  • Failed or incomplete calibration after component replacement
  • Contaminated or corroded connector causing intermittent signal
  • Vehicle not level during previous calibration procedure

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Vertical alignment verification failed for camera module. Camera pitch is out of specification or calibration incomplete; camera-based features may be restricted until corrected.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-1.5 hours
