Sliding door memory locking relay circuit

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Blown fuse for sliding door/locking circuit
  • Faulty sliding door memory locking relay
  • Open, shorted or damaged wiring between BCM and relay/door lock actuator
  • Poor or corroded connector pins at relay, BCM or door module
  • Faulty BCM or door control module (less common)
  • Intermittent mechanical failure in sliding door lock/actuator

Symptoms

  • Sliding door does not lock to memory position or fails to stay locked
  • Intermittent locking/unlocking of sliding door
  • Related door-locking features (memory recall) inoperative
  • Interior/exterior door lock switch may not operate sliding door correctly
  • Possible instrument panel warning or body system message

What to check

  • Verify battery voltage is within normal range (12–14.5 V)
  • Check fuses and fusible links for the sliding door and body control circuits
  • Visually inspect relay, relay socket and wiring harness for damage, corrosion or loose pins
  • Attempt to operate sliding door lock while monitoring relay clicking/sound
  • Scan BCM for additional body codes and freeze frame data

Signal parameters

  • Relay coil supply voltage (key on, command active): ~11–14.5 V
  • Relay coil supply when inactive: ~0 V (or battery voltage through open circuit)
  • Relay coil resistance (typical): 50–200 ohms (manufacturer-specific)
  • Ground continuity from relay ground to chassis:
  • Control signal from BCM when commanding lock: switched 0 V or battery voltage depending on design (verify with wiring diagram)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze-frame and vehicle-specific wiring/relay location from service manual. Clear code and attempt to reproduce.
  2. Inspect fuses and relays: check fuse related to sliding door/locking circuit; replace if blown and observe if it blows again.
  3. Visually inspect relay, socket and harness for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress or chafing. Repair connectors as needed.
  4. With ignition ON, measure voltage at relay power terminal and at the relay coil control terminal while operating the door lock/memory function. Compare to expected values in signal_params.
  5. Check ground continuity between relay ground and chassis. Repair high-resistance grounds.
  6. Measure coil resistance of the relay (remove relay and test). If out of range, replace relay.
  7. If relay, supply and ground are good but control signal is missing or abnormal, backprobe BCM/door module control pin. If module does not command correctly, inspect wiring for opens/shorts.
  8. If wiring and relay check good but intermittent behavior continues, swap with known-good relay (if available) and retest.
  9. If all wiring and actuator/relay tests pass, consider module-level faults; consult manufacturer diagnostic flow for BCM or door control module replacement or reprogramming.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and perform functional test of sliding door memory lock function and verify no codes return.

Likely causes

  • Faulty or stuck sliding door memory locking relay
  • Corroded connector or pin at the relay or door harness
  • Open/short in the relay control or power feed wiring

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Open or short in the sliding door memory locking relay circuit detected by the body control module.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5–2.0 hours
