Rear left - Massage module pump

Causes

  • Failed or seized massage pump motor
  • Open/short in pump power or ground circuit
  • Corroded or loose connector at seat pump/module
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay supplying pump
  • Faulty seat massage control module (internal fault)
  • Water ingress or physical damage to pump/harness

Symptoms

  • Rear left seat massage function does not operate
  • Warning/notification about seat massage or seat module on dash/infotainment
  • No audible pump noise when massage requested
  • Intermittent operation or loss of one massage zone
  • Related DTC(s) stored and lamp/message may be present

What to check

  • Read all stored DTCs and freeze frame data with a diagnostic scanner
  • Attempt to actuate the rear left massage pump with a scan tool while observing operation
  • Visually inspect the rear left seat underside for damaged wires, dampness, or connector corrosion
  • Check relevant fuses and relays for continuity and correct operation
  • Probe the pump connector for supply voltage and ground while activating the function
  • Measure pump current draw during activation (compare to expected range)

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to pump (expected ~11–14 V when activated)
  • Ground continuity at pump chassis/ground circuit
  • Pump current draw while running (typically 0.3–5 A depending on pump design)
  • Control command presence from seat module (digital command via CAN/LIN or switched power)
  • Resistance of pump motor coil at rest (compare to manufacturer specification)
  • Noisy or fluctuating voltage while pump commanded may indicate poor supply/ground

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner; record DTCs and attempt to run the rear left massage pump from actuators menu. Note reported errors and whether the pump is commanded.
  2. Visually inspect the seat underside, harnesses, and connectors for damage, corrosion, or water ingress. Repair or reseal as required.
  3. Check fuses/relays for the seat/massage circuit; replace if faulty.
  4. With pump commanded ON, measure voltage at the pump power pin and verify good ground. If no voltage, trace back to relay/module/fuse.
  5. If voltage present but pump does not run, measure current draw. Low/no current with voltage present suggests a failed pump motor—consider replacement.
  6. If pump runs but DTC persists, check communication to the seat massage/control module (CAN/LIN) and verify module responses. Check for additional stored faults.
  7. Perform wiggle tests on wiring while activating pump to reproduce intermittent faults; repair broken wires or connectors.
  8. If wiring and power are good and pump is functional, consider seat massage module replacement or reflash/update software per manufacturer service information.
  9. After repair, clear codes and verify full system operation and that no related faults return.

Likely causes

  • Pump motor failure or mechanical seizure
  • Poor electrical connection or corroded connector at pump
  • Blown fuse protecting the seat pump circuit
  • Open/short in wiring to pump (chafing near seat or hinge)
  • Seat module internal fault or firmware/communication error

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Rear left massage pump fault detected — electrical supply, pump motor stall, harness/connector problem, or module communication error. DTC stored; service required.
