Causes

  • Broken or disconnected wiring in the right turn indicator circuit
  • Corroded or loose connector at the instrument cluster, indicator lamp or BCM
  • Failed right turn indicator lamp (bulb or LED module)
  • Blown fuse or poor ground for the indicator circuit
  • Faulty Body Control Module (BCM) or instrument cluster output
  • Damage from water ingress or rodent chew

Symptoms

  • Right turn indicator lamp on the instrument cluster does not illuminate or flash when right turn is selected
  • Turn signal stalk may click but dash indicator stays off (or fails to flash)
  • Right exterior turn signals may or may not operate depending on whether fault is dash circuit only
  • Possible stored communication errors if BCM/cluster unable to drive the indicator

What to check

  • Read all stored DTCs and freeze frame with a capable scan tool; note any related BCM or cluster codes
  • Visually inspect wiring, connectors and lamp sockets for corrosion, damage or water intrusion at the right front/rear lamp and dash area
  • Check relevant fuses and fusible links for continuity
  • Operate turn signals and observe behavior while watching live data for indicator outputs from BCM/cluster
  • Measure voltage at the indicator lamp connector and at the instrument cluster connector while the right turn is selected
  • Perform continuity check between cluster indicator pin and right lamp pin with connectors disconnected (engine off)

Signal parameters

  • Expected supply: ~12 V (vehicle battery nominal 12.0–14.5 V) when indicator is ON/pulsing
  • Flash rate: approximately 1 Hz (about 60 flashes/min) when functioning normally
  • Incandescent bulb current: typically 0.5–3 A per lamp (depends on bulb); LED modules draw significantly less
  • Continuity: closed circuit / low resistance when intact (typical measured
  • Open-circuit condition: infinite resistance or no voltage at indicator terminal when the circuit is commanded

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve and record all DTCs and related module data with a scan tool; note if the code is current or historical.
  2. Visually inspect right-side exterior lamps, sockets, harnesses, and the instrument cluster area for damage, corrosion or water ingress.
  3. Verify fuses for the instrument cluster/indicator circuits; replace any blown fuse and retest.
  4. With ignition on (or engine running if required), command the right turn signal ON and measure voltage at the right indicator lamp connector. Expect a pulsed ~12 V signal. If present at the lamp but dash indicator is dead, suspect cluster/BCM or cluster wiring.
  5. If no voltage at lamp connector, check for continuity between the indicator lamp positive terminal and the BCM/cluster output pin. Repair any open circuit wiring or connector faults.
  6. Test the indicator lamp: remove and bench-test the bulb or LED module; replace with a known-good lamp and retest.
  7. Inspect and test ground connections for the lamp and instrument cluster. Clean and secure any poor grounds.
  8. If wiring and lamp test good but no output from BCM/cluster, check for related communication codes and verify power/ground to the BCM and cluster. Replace module only after confirming wiring and power/ground are correct.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and perform functional test of the turn signals and indicator. Re-scan to confirm B1504 does not return.

Likely causes

  • Open or damaged wire between instrument cluster (dash indicator) and right turn lamp or BCM
  • Failed indicator lamp (bulb filament open or LED driver failure)
  • Loose / corroded connector at the instrument cluster or lamp housing
  • Blown fuse protecting the indicator circuit
  • Faulty instrument cluster or BCM output driver
