  • Visually inspect and reseat connectors and grounds at the head unit
  • Check fuses and measure 12 V supply and ground at the CD/navigation unit
  • Verify MOST/CAN network status and presence of other module communication errors

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to head unit (nominal ~12 V, no large drops during operation)
  • Ground continuity at head unit chassis ground
  • MOST bus status / error counters (presence of ERR frames)
  • Data transfer/read error counters reported by audio/navigation unit
  • Spindle motor RPM or spindle control response (if available)
  • Optical pickup focus/laser drive current or focus error (service values where available)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record all stored DTCs and freeze-frame data with the factory diagnostic tool.
  2. Try a known-good OEM navigation or audio CD. If the good disc reads reliably, suspect media or disc file corruption.
  3. Clean or replace the suspicious disc; avoid DIY polishing that may worsen damage.
  4. Inspect and reseat connectors, check fuses, and measure battery voltage and ground at the unit during operation.
  5. Check MOST/CAN communications and related modules for errors; repair wiring or replace connector as required.
  6. If media failure excluded and electrical/communication are good, inspect/clean the optical pickup per manufacturer procedure or measure laser/focus signals if supported.
  7. Perform any available head-unit software/firmware update or reload navigation data following factory procedures.
  8. If faults persist after above checks, consider replacing the CD/mechanism or the navigation head unit; confirm replacement resolves fault before final assembly.
  9. Clear DTCs and perform a full functional test with multiple known-good discs and verify no recurrence.
