Causes

  • Disconnected or loose connector at driver airbag or SRS module
  • Broken, chafed or pinched wiring in steering column or harness
  • Faulty/failed clock spring (spiral cable) in steering column
  • Poor crimp or corroded terminal
  • Previous deployment or improper airbag replacement (open squib)
  • Faulty airbag module (driver inflator/squib) or SRS control unit

Symptoms

  • SRS/Airbag warning lamp illuminated on instrument cluster
  • Driver airbag will not deploy in a crash (system disabled for that circuit)
  • Possible loss of horn or steering wheel controls if shared wiring is damaged
  • Diagnostic trouble code B1932 stored in SRS module

What to check

  • Confirm presence of B1932 with a compatible scan tool and record freeze-frame data
  • Visually inspect driver airbag connector (behind steering wheel) and SRS module connector
  • Inspect steering column boot and harness for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires
  • Check for signs of previous airbag deployment or repair (cut wires, non‑OEM parts)
  • Measure continuity/resistance of the driver squib circuit per manufacturer procedure
  • Verify vehicle battery state and that SRS power/ground circuits are good

Signal parameters

  • Expected driver squib resistance: typically about 2–5 ohms (manufacturer specific) — an open circuit will read infinite/OL
  • Open-circuit condition: continuity check shows no continuity between driver airbag connector and SRS module
  • When using scan tool, SRS module will flag circuit as 'open' or high resistance

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Safety first: Disable SRS according to manufacturer instructions (disconnect battery negative and wait specified time, typically several minutes). Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate PPE.
  2. With SRS disabled, remove driver's airbag module connector(s) and inspect pins for corrosion, pushed‑out pins, or damage.
  3. Visually inspect wiring from the airbag connector through the steering wheel/column and into the dash for damage, chafing, or broken insulation.
  4. Check the clock spring (spiral cable) for damage; if suspect, remove steering wheel per procedure and test or replace clock spring as required.
  5. Perform continuity test between the driver airbag squib pins at the airbag connector and the corresponding pins at the SRS control module connector. No continuity indicates an open.
  6. Measure squib resistance (with airbag disconnected) at the airbag connector. Compare to manufacturer spec (typically ~2–5 ohms). Infinite/OL indicates an open squib or broken harness.
  7. If continuity is present but resistance is out of spec (very high), repair/replace wiring, connectors, or squib as needed. If harness and connector continuity OK but module still reports open, inspect SRS module connector and grounds.
  8. Repair or replace faulty components (clock spring, wiring harness section, airbag squib, or connectors). Use OEM parts and correct torque/polarity where required.
  9. After repair, reconnect, reconnect battery per procedure, clear DTC(s) with a scan tool and run self-tests. Confirm DTC B1932 does not return and SRS lamp behavior is normal.
  10. If code persists after wiring and component repairs, consider SRS control module diagnosis or replacement only after confirming all wiring and connector integrity.

Likely causes

  • Damaged clock spring wiring from steering wheel movement
  • Connector backshell or pin pulled/loose at driver airbag
  • Wire broken at steering column swivel point or harness grommet
  • Incorrect repair after airbag deployment (open squib not replaced)
  • Corrosion or water ingress at harness connector

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Driver airbag circuit open — SRS control module detects no continuity in the driver's airbag squib circuit. Driver airbag disabled and SRS warning lamp illuminated.
