Causes

  • Damaged wiring or connector (corrosion, chafing, broken strands)
  • Poor or corroded connector pins/ground
  • Failed actuator/sensor on the left side
  • Faulty control module or driver stage
  • Intermittent connection due to movement or moisture
  • Aftermarket equipment or recent repairs affecting the circuit

Symptoms

  • Warning lamp or message on dash related to the affected system (e.g., stability, suspension, lighting, or airbag depending on system)
  • Partial or complete loss of function for a left-side device (reduced performance or non-operation)
  • Intermittent operation that may change with steering/motion or temperature
  • Stored DTC and freeze frame data in the control module

What to check

  • Read and record all stored DTCs, freeze frame, and live data from the relevant control module
  • Visually inspect left-side wiring harness, connectors, and components for damage, corrosion or water ingress
  • Check connector locking tabs and pin seating; look for bent or pushed-back pins
  • Measure supply voltage at the left circuit connector with ignition ON (should be near battery voltage for power feeds)
  • Measure continuity and resistance to ground for the left circuit ground
  • Perform wiggle test on harness while monitoring live data to reproduce intermittent faults

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at connector (ignition ON): approx. battery voltage 11–14 V for power feeds
  • Ground potential: close to 0 V with low resistance (
  • Resistance of actuator coil/solenoid: typically low (single to tens of ohms) — consult vehicle-specific spec
  • Resistance of sensor reference/thermistor: typically kilo-ohm range — consult service data
  • Expected continuity: no open circuit between connector and module; short to battery or ground must not be present
  • If PWM-controlled: duty cycle and frequency should match manufacturer live-data values (use scan tool)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve DTCs and live data from the controlling module; note freeze frame and conditions when fault set.
  2. Identify the exact circuit and component described in the vehicle repair manual (left medium circuit definition).
  3. Perform a careful visual inspection of left-side harness, connector, and component for damage, corrosion or moisture.
  4. With ignition ON, backprobe the connector and verify supply voltage and ground reference at the connector for the left circuit.
  5. With power removed, measure resistance/continuity between the connector and the controlling module pin to check for open or short to chassis.
  6. If the component has a known resistance spec (motor, solenoid, sensor), measure it and compare to spec; replace component if out of range.
  7. Perform wiggle and flex tests on the harness while monitoring live data to find intermittent connections; repair any damaged wiring or connectors.
  8. If wiring and connectors test OK, test/replace the left-side actuator/sensor (or swap with the right side if identical and safe to do) to confirm if component is faulty.
  9. If the actuator and harness are good, suspect the control module output/driver; confirm with module bench test or consult manufacturer procedures before replacing.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and perform functional tests and a test drive to confirm the fault does not return.

Likely causes

  • Corroded pin or water ingress at the left-side connector
  • Open or shorted power feed to the left actuator
  • High resistance in ground path for the left circuit
  • Failed left-side actuator (motor, valve, solenoid, lamp or sensor)
  • Shorted output transistor or driver inside the control module

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Control module has detected a fault in the left medium circuit (open/short/high resistance or intermittent). Intervention required to inspect wiring, connectors and associated left-side component.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
