Door Driver Set Switch Stuck Failure

Causes

  • Faulty/frozen driver door set switch (mechanical jam or internal failure)
  • Short to power or ground in switch wiring or connector
  • Open circuit or high resistance in wiring or connector (corrosion, broken wire)
  • Water intrusion or contamination at the switch or connector
  • Faulty BCM or software fault interpreting the input

Symptoms

  • Door ajar indicator permanently on or not changing with door position
  • Interior dome/map lights remain on or do not operate correctly with driver door
  • Central locking or keyless entry functions behave incorrectly for driver door
  • Battery drain when vehicle is parked due to lights or modules staying awake
  • Driver door-related features (welcome lights, seat memory, window auto) not operating consistently

What to check

  • Visually inspect driver door switch for physical damage, debris, or corrosion
  • Operate the door and watch switch body/actuator for mechanical sticking or delayed return
  • Check connector at switch and BCM for corrosion, bent pins, bent shells, or water ingress
  • Verify vehicle battery voltage stable and fuses for BCM/switch circuit are intact
  • Use a scan tool to monitor the switch input while opening/closing the door to confirm stuck/unchanging state

Signal parameters

  • Switch is an input to the BCM; most systems use a low-voltage logic reference (commonly 5V) or pull-to-ground arrangement
  • Typical expected behavior: signal toggles between two states when actuated (e.g., ~0–0.5V when pulled to ground and near reference voltage when open)
  • Closed switch continuity: low ohms (≈0–50Ω depending on harness); open switch: very high resistance or OL
  • If circuit uses a pull-up, expect ~4–5V when open and ~0V when closed; verify with scan tool or DVOM

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze frame/DTM data with a scan tool and confirm B2112 is current or stored; note conditions when DTC set (ignition state, door open/closed).
  2. Perform a visual inspection: switch, actuator, connector, wiring harness along door hinge, door jamb grommet, and BCM connector for damage or contamination.
  3. With the ignition on, monitor the door switch input live data while operating the driver door. Note if the input ever changes state; if it is constant the switch/wiring is likely at fault.
  4. Operate the switch manually at the actuator and observe live data. If the data changes when pressing the switch directly, the mechanical actuator or door latch alignment may be the cause.
  5. If live data does not change, disconnect the switch connector and measure voltage at the connector pins: check for expected reference voltage and switching to ground when actuated. Record measurements.
  6. Check continuity/resistance of the switch wiring between the switch connector and BCM connector with harness flexing; repair any opens or shorts. Repair or replace corroded connectors and re-seal grommets.
  7. Bench test the switch if accessible: measure resistance open vs closed and compare to specification; replace switch if out of tolerance or mechanically sticking.
  8. If wiring and switch test good, inspect/replace BCM connector or test BCM input circuit for shorts to power/ground; consider module reflash or replacement if module fault is suspected.
  9. After repairs, clear codes, cycle ignition and operate door multiple times to confirm the DTC does not return and functionality is restored.

Likely causes

  • Switch contacts welded or contaminated causing permanent closed state
  • Connector pins corroded or loose causing intermittent/stuck reading
  • Wire chafed and shorted to chassis or adjacent circuit
  • Moisture inside door assembly causing switch to stick or short
  • BCM input circuit failed

Fault status

⚠️ Status
