Causes

  • Failed/shorted left rear window switch (mechanical contact stuck)
  • Corroded, bent, or damaged switch connector or wiring (short to power or ground)
  • Window regulator or motor mechanically jammed causing feedback anomaly
  • Water intrusion or debris inside switch assembly
  • Faulty body control module (BCM) or module software/firmware fault
  • Poor ground or power supply to switch or BCM

Symptoms

  • Left rear window will not move down (may be stuck closed)
  • Switch feels stuck, loose, or does not click normally
  • Window moves only in one direction or only with held manual input
  • Other door/window functions may be affected if BCM input/output fault exists
  • Possible blown fuse or repeated electrical faults when operating window

What to check

  • Read and record DTC with a scan tool; capture freeze frame/live data while attempting operation
  • Visually inspect left rear door switch for contamination, broken actuator, and secure mounting
  • Inspect connector at switch and door harness for corrosion, bent pins, water, or damage
  • Operate switch while probing for voltage and ground at switch terminals with a multimeter or oscilloscope
  • Check for power (12 V) feed and good ground at switch with ignition on
  • Unplug switch and measure continuity/ohms of internal switch positions (up/down) per service manual

Signal parameters

  • Battery supply to switch: ≈ battery voltage (12–14 V) with ignition/DRL as required
  • Switch ground: near 0 V with good chassis ground
  • Switch up-output: toggles to ~12 V (or to ground depending on design) only when pressed; B2204 will show constant up-command state
  • Resistance between switch terminals: open when not pressed, low ohms when pressed (refer to service spec)
  • CAN/BUS message: door switch input bit should change state when operated (compare to right-side switch)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify complaint and DTC: clear codes and attempt window operation. If code returns, proceed. 2) Visual inspection: check switch face, housing, and connector for contamination, corrosion or physical damage; remove trim to access switch. 3) Bench/functional check: remove switch and operate with a multimeter to confirm internal contacts change state when pressed (compare to service resistance values). 4) Power/ground check: with connector connected, measure supply voltage and ground at the switch connector with key on. 5) Signal check: backprobe the switch output(s) while operating the switch to confirm the output changes from idle to commanded state. If the output is constantly in the "up" state, suspect switch or short. 6) Swap/test: if available, swap with a known-good identical switch or use a known-good door switch input to the BCM to isolate switch vs. wiring/BCM. 7) Inspect harness: flex/operate the door while watching signal for intermittent changes—look for broken wires in the hinge area. 8) Motor/regulator check: if switch signals are correct but window won't move, apply direct 12 V to motor to confirm it runs and regulator is not seized. 9) BCM/communication: check for related BCM or network codes; if wiring and switch test good and motor/regulator OK, consider BCM input circuit fault or module replacement/software update per manufacturer. 10) Repair/replace: repair damaged wiring/connectors, clean or replace the left rear window switch, replace regulator/motor if mechanically faulty, or follow manufacturer instructions to replace or reprogram BCM if confirmed faulty. Clear codes and re-test operation and module status.

Likely causes

  • Internal switch contacts welded or contaminated (most common)
  • Pinched/shorted conductor in door harness near hinge
  • Connector corrosion from water entry at switch or door harness
  • Motor/regulator binding that holds switch circuit in a latched state

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Left rear window switch input stuck in the "UP" position — control module detecting a continuous up-command from the left rear door switch circuit.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5 - 2.0 hours
