Left Front Door Lock/Unlock Switch Stuck in Lock

Causes

  • Stuck or mechanically jammed lock/unlock switch
  • Corroded or contaminated switch contacts
  • Shorted wiring (signal shorted to ground) or damaged harness in door
  • Poor connector pin contact or bent terminal at switch or BCM
  • Water intrusion or corrosion in door connector or switch
  • Faulty door lock actuator seizing in locked position (reports lock state)

Symptoms

  • Left front door will not unlock using the door switch
  • Door may unlock with other controls (key fob, driver master) or may remain locked
  • DTC B2220 stored in BCM when scanned
  • Possible intermittent operation of left front lock/unlock
  • Related doors function normally while left front behaves stuck

What to check

  • Scan BCM for B2220 and any related codes; record freeze frame and state data
  • Verify operation of left front lock/unlock switch while watching live data or switch status on a scan tool
  • Operate lock/unlock from driver master switch and key fob to compare behavior
  • Visually inspect door switch, connector, and wiring in door jamb/gaiter for damage, corrosion, or pinched wires
  • Check for water or corrosion in switch housing and connector
  • Check fuses and power supply circuits for the door circuit

Signal parameters

  • 12 V supply present at switch power terminal with ignition on (verify supply)
  • Switch output should change state (close to ground or to supply) when toggled — verify change on scan tool or DVOM
  • When switch is inactive expected signal is 'open' or nominal voltage per vehicle wiring (see service manual)
  • When switch is pressed to 'lock' the BCM input should see a corresponding change (near 0 V if switched to ground or near battery if switched to +12 V)
  • No continuous lock-state signal should be present at BCM input when switch released

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve B2220 and related codes with a scan tool. Note when the DTC set and current status.
  2. Duplicate the symptom: operate the left front switch and observe lock/unlock response and live data on the scan tool.
  3. Visually inspect the left front door switch, its mounting, and connector for damage, water or corrosion. Repair or replace as needed.
  4. Inspect the door harness through the hinge boot for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires. Repair any damaged wiring with proper splice or replacement.
  5. With connector disconnected, check continuity between switch terminals and BCM (or harness splice) according to wiring diagram. Check for unintended shorts to ground or power.
  6. Probe the switch connector while operating the switch: verify supply voltage, ground reference, and that the switch output toggles. Compare to expected signal parameters.
  7. If switch wiring and signals are good, disconnect the left front door switch and see if the DTC clears or the lock behaves normally when controlled from other inputs. If clearing, replace the switch.
  8. Test the door lock actuator by commanding lock/unlock from the scan tool and monitoring current draw or actuator response. Replace actuator if seized or drawing excessive current.
  9. If wiring, switch, and actuator check out, inspect BCM connector pins for corrosion or damage. Consider BCM input test procedures per service manual.
  10. After repair, clear the code, cycle ignition and door operations, and confirm the fault does not return during road or bench testing.

Likely causes

  • Mechanical failure or contamination of the left front door switch (most common)
  • Wiring damage at the door hinge/boot causing short to ground
  • Corroded connector terminals at the switch or door harness
  • Failed door lock actuator causing a persistent lock signal
  • Intermittent BCM input or internal BCM fault (less common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Left front door lock/unlock switch input is stuck in the LOCK position; BCM detects a continuous lock signal from the left front door circuit.
