Causes

  • Open or short in the mirror harness (driver side)
  • Corroded or loose connector at mirror or door module
  • Failed horizontal feedback potentiometer inside the mirror assembly
  • Water ingress or damage to mirror electrical components
  • Faulty ground or reference supply from BCM
  • Intermittent wiring due to chafing or pin damage

Symptoms

  • Driver mirror will not adjust horizontally or adjusts erratically
  • Mirror position memory does not store or recall correctly
  • Mirror may not auto-fold/unfold or stops mid-travel
  • Intermittent mirror movement or incorrect mirror position reported
  • Possible stored mirror-related fault codes or warning message in infotainment/BCM

What to check

  • Read fault memory with a manufacturer-level scan tool; record freeze frame and related mirror codes
  • Visually inspect driver mirror connector and door wiring for corrosion, damage, or water ingress
  • Wiggle-test harness and connector while observing live data for the horizontal feedback signal
  • Back-probe the mirror connector while operating mirror to confirm presence of reference voltage, ground and varying signal
  • Measure continuity and resistance of wiring between mirror connector and BCM
  • Inspect and test ground connections at door hinge and body ground points

Signal parameters

  • Reference (VREF) typically from BCM ~5 V (check manufacturer spec)
  • Signal voltage varies with horizontal position, usually ~0.5–4.5 V as mirror moves
  • Potentiometer resistance varies smoothly across travel (manufacturer-specific, often 5 kΩ–20 kΩ range)
  • No signal or stuck/fixed voltage indicates open/short or failed pot
  • Intermittent or noisy signal suggests corrosion, dirty pot, or broken wiring

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a Land Rover-capable scan tool; confirm B2320 and note any related mirror/seat memory codes.
  2. Inspect driver mirror external connector and door harness for corrosion, damage, or evidence of water ingress; repair as required.
  3. With connector attached, back-probe reference, signal and ground pins. Verify VREF present and stable (≈5 V) and good ground.
  4. Operate the horizontal mirror motor while watching live signal voltage; signal should vary smoothly across travel. If signal is absent or fixed, proceed.
  5. If signal missing or erratic, disconnect mirror and test continuity between mirror connector pins and BCM connector; repair any open/shorts.
  6. If wiring checks good, measure potentiometer resistance across its terminals while moving mirror (or measure signal with mirror assembled). If resistance or signal is non-linear or open, mirror assembly potentiometer has failed—replace mirror.
  7. After repairs, clear codes, cycle ignition and exercise mirror through full travel and memory recall; verify code does not return and functions are restored.
  8. If wiring and mirror check OK but code persists, investigate BCM input circuit or perform BCM programming/diagnostics per factory procedures.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring or connector to driver mirror (most common)
  • Failed horizontal potentiometer inside mirror assembly
  • Corrosion/water ingress at mirror connector or inside mirror
  • Poor ground or lost reference voltage from BCM
