Causes

  • Obstruction in door track or latch preventing full travel
  • Faulty door position/limit switch or sensor
  • Damaged or misadjusted latch or striker
  • Weak or failing door motor/actuator or high friction in mechanism
  • Intermittent or open wiring/connectors between PSD module and door sensors/actuator
  • Incorrect calibration or lost alignment of PSD position sensor

Symptoms

  • Sliding door stops before fully closed or reopens
  • Interior dome light or door-ajar indicator remains on
  • Chime or dash message indicating door open
  • Door cannot be locked using remote or auto-lock functions
  • Audible motor effort without door movement or abnormal noise

What to check

  • Scan for codes and read PSD module freeze frame and data
  • Visually inspect door tracks, rollers, latch and striker for debris or damage
  • Operate door with scan tool/diagnostic tester and observe behavior
  • Check for related fuses and battery voltage during operation
  • Inspect connectors and wiring for damage, corrosion, or pin loss at door harness and module
  • Manually move door through travel to feel binding points and check latch engagement

Signal parameters

  • PSD module commanded-close flag / request on CAN
  • Door position sensor raw value (0–5 V or digital counts depending on model)
  • Limit/closed switch state (open/closed logic)
  • Actuator motor supply voltage (approx battery voltage when commanded)
  • Motor current draw (amps) during attempt — elevated at stall
  • Battery voltage during operation (should remain near nominal)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve and record all DTCs and freeze-frame data from PSD and related modules. Note recent events and ignition state.
  2. Attempt a PSD close cycle while monitoring live data: watch commanded-close flag, position sensor, and closed-limit switch state.
  3. Clear the code and repeat the operation to verify if code is intermittent.
  4. Inspect the door path and latch area; remove any obstruction and test operation manually and with the module.
  5. Inspect and wiggle door harness connectors with door in various positions; check for continuity and short to ground or battery on position/limit switch circuits.
  6. Measure position sensor voltage or signal counts while cycling the door to confirm the sensor changes and reaches the ‘closed’ value; compare to factory spec.
  7. Measure motor supply voltage and motor current during a commanded close. High current at low movement suggests mechanical bind or motor problem.
  8. Check and adjust latch/striker alignment per service manual, lubricate rollers and tracks, and repair any worn components.
  9. Replace faulty position/limit switch, actuator or wiring as indicated by tests. Relearn/calibrate PSD position if required by manufacturer procedure.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and verify several cycles under normal conditions. Confirm door fully closes and no new DTCs return.

Likely causes

  • Door ajar/limit switch stuck or out of spec
  • Mechanical binding at hinge, roller, or latch
  • Connector corrosion or broken wire in door harness
  • Actuator motor draws excessive current or stalls
  • Striker misalignment preventing latch from engaging fully

Fault status

⚠️ Status
PSD Not Fully Closed — module issued close command successfully but closed-state feedback/sensor did not indicate the door reached fully closed.
