Causes

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read DTCs and note freeze frame data. Check for additional codes that could identify a common fault.
  2. Perform a visual inspection of the RH IR lamp assembly, lens, connector, and harness for corrosion, loose pins, or physical damage.
  3. With ignition ON, backprobe the lamp connector and measure voltage at the control/power pin while commanding the lamp ON and OFF via scanner or switch. Record readings.
  4. Measure resistance from the control pin to chassis ground with power removed. A very low resistance indicates a short to ground.
  5. Disconnect the RH IR lamp connector. Clear the code and command the lamp ON; if the code no longer returns, suspect the lamp assembly or wiring downstream. If the code remains, suspect wiring or module.
  6. If open/short suspected in harness, perform wiggle tests while monitoring voltage/continuity to locate intermittent failure. Inspect routing for chafing points.
  7. If wiring and connector check good, test or swap the lamp driver/BCM output (if possible) or inspect module for internal damage. Refer to service manual for module test procedures.
  8. Repair or replace damaged wiring, connector, or lamp assembly as required. Reprogram or replace control module only after verifying wiring and lamp are good.
  9. After repair, clear codes and perform functional test cycles and a road test or system test to confirm proper operation and that the code does not return.
