Causes

What to check

  • Scan for B2813 and any other related B- or U- codes; record freeze frame/occurrence data
  • Visual inspection of antenna(s), connectors and wiring for damage, corrosion or water ingress
  • Verify relevant fuses and relays for power to antenna/receiver
  • Probe power and ground at antenna and receiver with key ON
  • Check continuity and resistance of wiring between antenna and receiver/BCM
  • Wiggle test harness while observing live data or DTCs for intermittent change

Signal parameters

  • Antenna supply: typical 10–14 V with key ON (verify vehicle specific)
  • Ground: continuity to chassis ground,
  • Demodulated/data output: low-voltage digital level (approx. 0–5 V) or LIN signal; check with scope/scan tool
  • RF receive: passive or active antenna intended to receive fob carrier (commonly 315/434/868/915 MHz depending on region)
  • Impedance: antenna element/coil continuity (few ohms to low hundreds of ohms depending on design); open or very high resistance indicates break
  • Shorts: no DC short to battery or ground on antenna signal/data lines

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze-frame and any additional DTCs. Note conditions (key position, vehicle speed, battery voltage).
  2. Perform a thorough visual inspection of antennas, connectors and harness routing. Repair obvious damage and reseat connectors.
  3. Check relevant fuses and power feed to the antenna/receiver. Replace any blown fuses and re-test.
  4. With connector disconnected, verify supply voltage and ground at the antenna connector with key ON. Compare to expected values.
  5. Measure continuity and resistance of the antenna feed and data wires between antenna and BCM/receiver. Repair any opens or high-resistance circuits.
  6. If wiring checks OK, monitor demodulated/data line with a scope or multimeter while operating a known-good key fob at close range. Look for valid pulses or LIN frames.
  7. Swap or bench-test the antenna module (if removable and a known-good unit is available) or replace the antenna if bench testing indicates failure.
  8. If the antenna is integrated into a larger module (roof module, BCM, door module), test and verify module inputs/outputs and consider module replacement if wiring and antenna are good.
  9. Clear DTCs and verify repair by exercising the key fob at various locations and performing a road or functional test to ensure code does not return.
  10. If intermittent faults remain, inspect for RF sources of interference and confirm proper antenna mounting and shielding.

  • Open or shorted wiring between antenna and body control module
  • Failed antenna module (mechanical damage or internal electronics)
  • Poor ground at the receiver/antenna mounting point
