Causes

  • Faulty DMB/TPEG control module (internal failure or software fault)
  • Open/shorted or damaged wiring harness between module and gateway/infotainment unit
  • Poor or lost power supply (blown fuse, poor battery/ignition feed) or poor ground
  • Connector corrosion, loose pins, or improper mating at module or gateway
  • CAN/LIN/MOST bus errors, high bus load, or missing termination
  • Intermittent faults due to movement, temperature or vibration

Symptoms

  • Infotainment shows no DMB/TPEG function or displays communication error
  • No traffic or digital broadcast information available
  • Related warning or error message on cluster or head unit
  • Intermittent loss of DMB/TPEG features or freezing of infotainment
  • Other network modules reporting lost communication with DMB/TPEG module

What to check

  • Read and record all stored DTCs and freeze frame data from infotainment and gateway modules
  • Check battery voltage and charging system; perform test with engine running and off
  • Inspect fuses and relays for power feeds to DMB/TPEG module
  • Visually inspect connectors and wiring for corrosion, damage, or loose pins
  • Check module power and ground circuits for proper voltage and low resistance to chassis
  • Scan CAN/LIN/MOST bus for active messages, error counters, and bus-off events

Signal parameters

  • Module supply voltage (key ON, engine ON) 11–14 V expected
  • Ground resistance to chassis (
  • CAN bus dominant/recessive voltages on CAN_H and CAN_L (approx. 2.5 V idle, ~0.5/3.5 V differential when active)
  • Presence of expected CAN message IDs and alive/heartbeat messages from DMB/TPEG module
  • Bus error counters / bus-off status in gateway or affected nodes
  • Response to UDS/ISO-TP diagnostic requests (session, OBD read) from the module

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a professional scan tool. Read and log DTCs from infotainment, gateway, and DMB/TPEG module. Note freeze frame and occurrence conditions.
  2. Attempt to clear the B2831 code, then cycle ignition and reproduce. If code returns immediately, proceed with electrical checks.
  3. Verify battery voltage and check fuses/relays supplying the DMB/TPEG module. Replace any blown fuses and retest.
  4. Inspect physical connectors at the DMB/TPEG module and gateway. Disconnect, inspect pins for corrosion/bent pins, clean and reseat firmly.
  5. Measure power and ground at the module connector with connector connected: supply ~11–14 V (key ON), ground continuity to chassis. Repair wiring as needed.
  6. Use a scope or oscilloscope-capable scan tool to monitor CAN/LIN/MOST bus signals near the module and at the gateway. Look for missing alive messages, excessive errors, or bus-off conditions.
  7. If bus errors are present, isolate by disconnecting branches or suspect nodes to find failing device or short. Repair or replace damaged wiring or nodes.
  8. Check for antenna/tuner faults if the module reports reception problems; verify coax and grounding.
  9. Confirm module software level and compare with OEM bulletin; perform software update/reflash or reprogramming if available and recommended.
  10. If wiring, power and bus integrity are confirmed and module still will not communicate, consider replacement of the DMB/TPEG control module and then reprogram and test.
  11. After repair, clear codes and verify normal operation and that the code does not return during road test and normal use.

Likely causes

  • Loose/corroded connector or damaged wiring to DMB/TPEG module
  • Module not powered (fuse, ignition feed) or poor ground
  • CAN bus communication fault (bus-off, high error rate) between module and gateway
  • Module internal failure or software corruption

Fault status
