DMB Antenna Short State

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Damaged or chafed antenna wiring shorting to ground or power
  • Failed DMB antenna amplifier (internal short)
  • Corroded or water-intruded antenna connector or coax
  • Shorted connector pins or poor terminal seating
  • Blown or shorted antenna power fuse or wiring
  • Faulty head unit / audio control module detection circuit

Symptoms

  • Loss or severe degradation of DMB reception/TV/radio signal
  • Radio or infotainment may display antenna/ reception fault messages
  • DTC B2850 stored in body/audio control module
  • Possible intermittent reception depending on vehicle movement

What to check

  • Use a diagnostic scanner to confirm B2850 and view freeze-frame/related codes
  • Visually inspect antenna mast, roof base, and coax routing for damage or water intrusion
  • Inspect antenna connector and head unit harness for corrosion, bent pins, or pin-to-pin shorts
  • Check antenna power fuse(s) and related wiring harness for continuity and shorts to ground
  • Measure voltage at antenna power feed with radio/infotainment ON
  • Disconnect antenna/antenna amplifier to see if code clears

Signal parameters

  • Antenna supply voltage (infotainment ON): ~12 V (verify against vehicle spec)
  • Antenna feed resistance to ground: normally high (kΩ–MΩ); short condition shows very low resistance (single-digit Ω)
  • Antenna amplifier supply current: nominal small current (mA); excessive current indicates short/fault

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a scan tool, read DTCs and any freeze-frame data; record related codes.
  2. Visually inspect antenna, roof grommet, coax, and connectors for damage, corrosion, or water ingress; repair visible damage.
  3. Check fuses and inline fusible links for the antenna/infotainment power circuit; replace if blown and re-test.
  4. With ignition ON and radio powered, measure voltage at the antenna power pin at the head unit and at the antenna connector. Compare to spec.
  5. Measure resistance between antenna power feed and chassis ground. If near 0 Ω, isolate segments of the harness to locate short (disconnect connectors in sections).
  6. Disconnect the antenna amplifier/antenna assembly. Clear codes, then cycle power and see if B2850 returns. If code clears with antenna disconnected, fault is in antenna/amp or its wiring.
  7. Inspect and test continuity of coax inner conductor vs shield (should not be shorted).
  8. If wiring and connectors are good but short persists, bench-test or replace the antenna amplifier. If amplifier tests good, consider replacement or further testing of head unit detection circuit.
  9. After repairs, clear DTCs, perform an ignition cycles/road test and verify no reoccurrence of the code and restored DMB reception.

Likely causes

  • Water intrusion at roof antenna base causing short to ground
  • Broken inner conductor contacting shield in coax (short)
  • Antenna amplifier failed and draws excessive current/creates short
  • Connector pin bent or pushed through insulation creating short to chassis

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Body/audio control module detected a short condition on the DMB antenna feed (low resistance to ground or power) indicating an antenna/amp or wiring fault.
