PWR.striker hall SNS:SHT to GND
AI status

Causes
- Damaged or chafed wiring causing signal wire to short to chassis ground
- Corroded or pushed-back connector pin making unintended ground contact
- Failed Hall-effect striker sensor internal short to ground
- Water ingress or contamination in connector or sensor
- Aftermarket modifications or repairs that disturbed the harness
Symptoms
- Tailgate/power-striker may not operate or will not detect closed position
- Warning lamp or message related to power tailgate or striker
- Intermittent operation of tailgate latch or incorrect latch status
- DTC stored in BCM; related systems may be disabled as a fallback
What to check
- Retrieve freeze frame and live data from scan tool; note sensor status and when code set
- Visually inspect harness along hinge and striker area for chafing, pinched wires, or damage
- Inspect sensor and connector for corrosion, water, or bent pins
- Back-probe sensor connector with ignition ON and observe reference, signal and ground voltages
- Check continuity between signal wire and chassis ground (with ignition OFF) for a short
- Disconnect the sensor and see if the DTC clears or changes (watch for other related codes)
Signal parameters
- Reference supply (Vref) typically ~5 V (check OEM wiring diagram for exact value)
- Sensor signal: switches between ~0 V and near Vref depending on striker position; short to ground will hold signal near 0 V
- Expected open-circuit resistance between signal and ground: very high (kΩ); a measured near 0 Ω indicates short
- Typical quiescent current low; an internal short will increase current draw on the sensor circuit
Diagnostic algorithm
- Read and record fault code(s) and live data. Note when and under what conditions code set.
- Visually inspect the striker, sensor, wiring harness and connector for physical damage, corrosion or moisture.
- With ignition ON (engine off), back-probe connector: verify Vref present, ground continuity good, and monitor signal voltage while operating striker. If Vref missing, stop and locate supply fault.
- With ignition OFF, disconnect sensor and measure continuity between the signal terminal and chassis ground. If continuity (near 0 Ω) exists with sensor disconnected, trace and repair harness to remove short to ground.
- If the short is only present with sensor connected, replace the sensor and retest. If short remains, inspect wiring and connectors between sensor and BCM for chafing or pin contact with chassis.
- Repair any damaged wiring (route, protect, or replace harness section), clean or replace corroded connectors, and replace the sensor if faulty.
- Clear codes and perform functional test of the power striker/tailgate through full operation cycles. Re-scan for codes and monitor live data to confirm repair.
Likely causes
- Broken insulation on the sensor signal wire where it rubs on body or hinge
- Connector terminal bent and contacting sensor housing (ground)
- Internal sensor electronics shorted to sensor case
- Connector pin corrosion causing low resistance path to ground
- Poor repair splice that contacted ground
Fault status
Status
Power striker Hall sensor circuit shorted to ground detected by the control module. Sensor signal held at or near ground; function may be disabled until fault is corrected.
