Causes
- Vehicle battery disconnected or low voltage causing lost learned position
- Incomplete or failed power-window initialization/learning procedure
- Faulty rear-left power window motor or regulator (mechanical jam)
- Defective rear-left window switch or door module
- Open/short in wiring harness or poor connector/ground at RL door
- Blown fuse or relay in power-window circuit
Symptoms
- Rear-left window does not operate or only operates manually
- Auto up/down or anti-pinch function does not work for rear-left window
- DTC B28B7 stored in the body/power-window controller
- Window movement is intermittent or stops partway
- Possible clicking from relay/driver but no motor movement
What to check
- Use a diagnostic scanner to read codes from body/power-window control module and check freeze frame or readiness data
- Attempt the manufacturer's initialization/learning procedure for the rear-left window (follow service manual)
- Verify battery voltage is stable (>12V) during tests
- Inspect fuse(s) for power-window circuits and relays
- Visually inspect RL door wiring, connectors and grounds for corrosion or damage
- Operate the RL switch while watching/feeling for motor movement and listening for motor/driver noise
Signal parameters
- Battery voltage at window motor (V)
- Switch input voltage to power-window ECU (V)
- Motor drive command voltage/signal from control module (V or PWM duty)
- Motor current during operation (A) — used to detect stall/binding
- Motor DC resistance (Ω)
- Ground continuity to motor and switch
Diagnostic algorithm
- Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all body/power-window related DTCs; record and clear codes, then reattempt operation to re-check.
- Confirm vehicle battery voltage is healthy; recharge if low. Ensure ignition in required position for initialization.
- Attempt OEM rear-left power-window initialization/learning procedure (service manual). Note whether procedure completes or fails and any error messages.
- If initialization fails, inspect fuses/relays for the power-window circuit and replace if defective.
- With ignition on, operate RL switch while monitoring voltage at the motor connector. If motor supply voltage is present but motor does not turn, suspect motor/regulator or mechanical jam.
- Measure motor current while commanding movement. High current or zero current indicates stall or open circuit respectively.
- Check continuity and resistance of wiring between switch, motor and control module; repair any open/shorts and clean corroded connectors.
- Inspect window regulator and glass for binding, broken cables or seized components; repair or replace regulator/motor assembly as required.
- If wiring, motor and regulator are good, verify switch operation and replace switch or door module if defective.
- If all hardware checks pass, inspect/replace body control module or reflash software per manufacturer guidance.
- After repairs, perform the initialization/learning procedure again and verify normal operation and that DTC B28B7 does not return.
Likely causes
- Initialization routine not performed after battery replacement or service
- Window motor seized or regulator binding preventing movement through learn range
- Corroded connector or broken wire between switch and motor
- Switch contacts worn or stuck — no command to the motor
- Blown fuse supplying the window motor or control module
Fault status
Status
Rear-left power window not initialized or initialization failed — perform initialization and check RL window system.
