Causes

  • Damaged or corroded connector at keyless entry receiver or BCM
  • Broken, chafed, pinched or shorted wiring between receiver antenna and BCM (open, short to ground or battery)
  • Faulty keyless entry receiver or antenna module
  • Poor or missing power/ground to the receiver (blown fuse, lost ground)
  • Water intrusion or corrosion at receiver/antenna or connectors
  • Interference from aftermarket devices or improperly installed alarm/remote systems

Symptoms

  • Keyless remote (lock/unlock) has no effect or works intermittently
  • Doors do not lock/unlock with remote; remote range reduced or inconsistent
  • BCM may store additional body electrical codes or disable related functions
  • No audible chirp or lights when remote pressed (if normally present)

What to check

  • Scan vehicle and retrieve freeze-frame / related DTCs; confirm B3473 is current or historic
  • Visual inspection of receiver/antenna, BCM connectors and wiring for corrosion, damage or water intrusion
  • Check relevant fuses and fusible links for receiver/BCM power
  • Verify receiver/antenna module ground and supply voltage with ignition on (multimeter)
  • Check remote key battery and verify remote transmits (use spare remote if available)
  • Wiggle test wiring/connectors while operating remote to reproduce fault

Signal parameters

  • Receiver supply voltage: nominal battery voltage ~11–14.5 V with ignition on or as specified by vehicle
  • Receiver ground: near 0 V (0–0.2 V measured to battery negative under light load)
  • Signal line behavior: pulsed RF/logic signal when remote button pressed — at the BCM input expect transient voltage changes (vehicle-specific); no continuous high current
  • Typical continuity: low ohms (1 MΩ or infinite

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record codes and symptoms; verify remote battery and operation from multiple remotes if available.
  2. Perform visual inspection of receiver/antenna and BCM connectors for damage, corrosion, bent pins, or water intrusion; repair as needed.
  3. Check fuses and any fusible links feeding the receiver/antenna and BCM; replace blown fuses and retest.
  4. With ignition on, measure supply voltage and ground at the receiver/antenna connector. Expect battery voltage on Vbatt terminal and near 0 V on ground. If incorrect, trace power/ground to BCM and battery.
  5. Check continuity between receiver connector pins and the BCM pins for the receiver circuit. Look for opens or shorts to ground/battery/chassis.
  6. While monitoring the receiver signal or BCM input with a multimeter or oscilloscope, press the remote and observe for signal pulses. If no pulses and remote is known good, suspect receiver or wiring open.
  7. Disconnect aftermarket alarm/remote devices and retest if present.
  8. If wiring and power/ground are good but no signal, substitute a known-good receiver/antenna (if available) or repair/replace receiver module.
  9. If replacement receiver does not clear the fault and wiring is verified, consider BCM fault; confirm BCM inputs and communications before replacing. Clear codes and road-test to verify repair.
  10. After repair, clear DTCs and verify functionality of keyless entry from multiple remotes and ranges.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring harness between receiver antenna and BCM (open or short)
  • Corroded/loose connector at receiver or BCM
  • Blown fuse or poor ground supplying the receiver
  • Failed keyless entry receiver/antenna module
