Causes

  3. Inspect the tone ring/reluctor on the hub/axle for missing teeth, cracks, heavy rust or metal debris.
  4. Check and measure sensor air gap and correct mounting. Re-seat or replace mounting hardware if loose.
  5. Measure sensor electrical parameters: for Hall sensors check reference and signal voltages; for VR sensors check resistance and AC output while spinning the wheel.
  6. Perform continuity and short-to-ground/battery checks from the sensor connector back to the ABS module connector pins.
  7. Wiggle the wiring harness and connector while monitoring live wheel speed data to find intermittent faults.
  8. If wiring and sensor pass tests, swap a known-good sensor from another wheel (if identical) or temporarily connect a bench sensor to confirm module input behavior.
  9. Repair or replace the faulty component (sensor, tone ring, wiring, connector) as required; protect and secure harness routing.
  10. Clear codes and perform a road test with live data to confirm proper wheel speed signal and ensure the code does not return.
