Causes

  • Damaged or corroded wiring or connector to the pressure sensor or control valve
  • Failed pressure sensor (open, shorted, or out-of-range output)
  • Stuck, mechanically failed or electrically failed pressure control valve
  • Low or contaminated hydraulic/fluid or air supply to the valve/sensor
  • Faulty ABS/ESC/suspension control module or software error
  • Intermittent connection due to corrosion, pin damage or water ingress

Symptoms

  • ABS, ESC or suspension fault lamp illuminated on dash
  • Loss of traction control, ABS or automatic suspension functionality
  • Longer stopping distances or altered brake feel when the system is active
  • Warning message about ride height or suspension pressure (if applicable)
  • Diagnostic trouble code C1037 stored in chassis control module
  • Intermittent faults that may clear after driving or reconnecting battery

What to check

  • Read and record all stored codes and freeze-frame data from ABS/ESC/suspension module
  • Visual inspection of sensor and valve connectors for corrosion, water intrusion and pin damage
  • Inspect hydraulic or air lines for leaks, contamination or disconnected fittings
  • Check fuses and chassis ground(s) related to ABS/ESC/suspension power and sensors
  • Use a scan tool to view live pressure sensor data and valve command status while actuating functions
  • Wiggle-test wiring and connectors while monitoring live data for intermittent changes

Signal parameters

  • Sensor supply/reference voltage: typically ~5.0 V from the control module (verify factory spec)
  • Expected sensor output range: commonly ~0.5–4.5 V proportional to pressure (manufacturer-specific)
  • At zero or low pressure: output near lower end (~0.5–1.0 V)
  • At high/maximum pressure: output approaches upper end (~4.0–4.5 V)
  • Signal return/ground must be solid (low ohms to chassis)
  • Control module commands valve via a switched ground or driver PWM — valve current or PWM duty should change when commanded

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect an appropriate scan tool, read and save all codes and live data. Note related codes and freeze-frame data.
  2. With ignition on, monitor pressure sensor voltage and module status. Confirm the sensor has proper reference voltage and ground. If no reference, suspect wiring or module.
  3. Inspect the sensor and valve connectors visually and clean/back-flash if corrosion is present. Repair damaged pins or replace connector as needed.
  4. Wiggle harness and connectors while watching live data to identify intermittent faults.
  5. Measure sensor output with a multimeter or scope while applying system pressure (use manufacturer procedure or controlled hydraulic/air pressure). Compare readings to spec.
  6. Command the pressure control valve with a diagnostic tool and observe valve response and changes in sensor reading. If the valve does not actuate, check valve supply and driver output from the module.
  7. Check for hydraulic/air leaks, contamination or low fluid that could cause incorrect pressure readings. Repair leaks and replace contaminated fluid or filters.
  8. If wiring and valve appear good but sensor output is out of range, replace the pressure sensor and retest.
  9. If replacement sensor and wiring are confirmed good and the problem persists, consider control module fault and refer to module bench test/replace procedure.
  10. Clear codes and perform a road or system function test to confirm repair.

Likely causes

  • Wiring connector corrosion or pin damage at the sensor/valve (most common)
  • Failed pressure sensor (no or implausible output)
  • Valve mechanically stuck or electrically non-responsive
  • Contaminated hydraulic/air circuit preventing correct pressure readings
  • Control module internal fault (least common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Pressure control valve pressure sensor circuit fault detected. Control module unable to get a valid pressure reading or detect proper valve response; system may be degraded.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.0-2.5 hours
