Causes

  • Open or short in the right front discharge valve wiring or connector
  • Failed discharge (release) solenoid inside the hydraulic block
  • Corroded or damaged connector pins
  • Faulty ABS/ESP control module or driver transistor
  • Hydraulic blockage, internal valve seizure, or contamination
  • Intermittent supply voltage or poor ground

Symptoms

  • ABS and/or ESP warning lamp illuminated
  • Possible reduced braking performance under ABS operation
  • Traction control/ESP may be disabled or degraded
  • Brake pedal feel may change during ABS events
  • Stored DTC(s) relating to right front wheel valve

What to check

  • Read freeze frame and ABS live data with a suitable scan tool; note related codes
  • Visual inspection of right front wheel area wiring and connector for damage or corrosion
  • Inspect connector at ABS hydraulic unit for corrosion, bent pins or water
  • Check supply voltage and ground at the valve connector with ignition on
  • Measure solenoid coil resistance (compare to specification) and for short to ground
  • Attempt to command/actuate the valve with diagnostic tool and observe response

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage: approximately 12 V (ignition on; check with multimeter)
  • Actuation voltage/pulse: switched/grounded by ABS module; duty cycle varies when commanded
  • Typical solenoid resistance: roughly 8–20 Ω (consult OEM spec for exact value)
  • Expected change in current/resistance when commanded (see manufacturer live data)
  • No continuity/OL indicates open coil; near 0 Ω indicates shorted coil or internal short

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify and record stored codes and freeze-frame data with a diagnostic scanner.
  2. Visually inspect wiring and connector at right front wheel and ABS hydraulic unit; repair visible damage.
  3. With ignition off, disconnect valve connector; check pin condition and measure coil resistance across valve terminals; compare to OEM spec.
  4. Check continuity from valve connector to ABS module pins; check for short to ground or battery.
  5. With ignition on, check for 12 V supply and good ground at the connector. Re-check while commanding valve with scanner to observe switching/duty.
  6. Use diagnostic tool to actuate the right front discharge valve while monitoring current/voltage and live data; note if valve responds.
  7. If wiring and connector are good but valve fails to respond or coil resistance is out of spec, replace the discharge solenoid or the hydraulic valve assembly per manufacturer procedure.
  8. If the new valve still fails or coil checks OK but module cannot drive it, suspect ABS/ESP control module or driver transistor — confirm with module bench test or replacement per OEM guidance.
  9. After repair, clear codes and perform an ABS self-test and road test to verify no recurrence. Re-scan for related codes.

Likely causes

  • Wiring harness chafed at wheel arch or near hydraulic unit
  • Water ingress/corrosion in the valve connector
  • Solenoid coil open or shorted
  • Blown driver in ABS module after hydraulic fault
  • Debris inside hydraulic valve preventing movement

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right front discharge valve circuit malfunction. ABS/ESP control unit detected abnormal operation (open/short/response fault) of the right front pressure release (discharge) valve.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.0-2.5 hours
