Causes

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a scan tool to confirm C1427 and check for related codes (left/right or front damper codes). Record live data for right rear damper.
  2. Visually inspect the right rear damper connector, wiring harness, and nearby body/chassis for chafing, pinch points, corrosion or a disconnected connector.
  3. With ignition ON (engine off), backprobe the damper connector: verify reference/supply voltage, signal voltage and ground. If supply or ground missing, trace back to fuse/relay/module.
  4. Measure continuity between the damper connector pins and the suspension control module pins. An open indicates wiring/connector fault. Repair wiring or connector as required.
  5. If wiring/connector are good, disconnect damper and measure the damper’s internal resistance per manufacturer spec. An open (OL) indicates a failed damper — replace the damper assembly.
  6. If damper and wiring are good but signal absent, test the suspension control module output/driver. Check fuses, relays and module grounds. Replace or reprogram module only after confirming upstream wiring and component integrity.
  7. After any repair or component replacement, clear codes, perform required suspension initialization/calibration (if applicable) and road test to confirm repair. Re-scan for codes.
