Causes

  • Open or broken wiring between control module and vent solenoid
  • Corroded or disconnected connector at the solenoid or module
  • Failed vent solenoid (open coil)
  • Blown fuse or failed relay in the suspension power circuit
  • Poor or missing ground for the solenoid circuit
  • Water intrusion or contamination in connector/harness

Symptoms

  • Air suspension will not vent or lower on command
  • Incorrect ride height or vehicle stuck at a high ride position
  • Air suspension warning lamp or message on dash
  • Compressor may run longer or fail to correct height
  • DTC C1771 (or related) stored in suspension control module

What to check

  • Retrieve freeze frame data and related codes from the suspension control module; record conditions when the code set
  • Visually inspect harness and connector at the vent solenoid for corrosion, damage, or water intrusion
  • Check relevant fuses and relays for the air suspension circuit
  • Backprobe the vent solenoid connector and check for drive voltage while commanding the vent function
  • Measure solenoid coil resistance with connector unplugged (compare to specification)
  • Perform continuity check from the module output pin to the solenoid connector pin

Signal parameters

  • Expected supply/drive: approximately battery voltage when commanded (typically ~11–14 V) for many systems — verify vehicle-specific spec
  • When not commanded the output may be 0 V or open; some systems use PWM drive rather than steady DC
  • Solenoid coil resistance typically in the range of tens of ohms for many designs (consult vehicle service data for exact ohms)
  • Continuity expected between module output pin and solenoid terminal; open/infinite resistance indicates a break
  • No short to battery or ground present in a healthy circuit

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Confirm code and note any stored freeze-frame/related codes. Clear code and attempt to re-run to verify repeatability.
  2. Visually inspect the vent solenoid, connector, and harness. Repair obvious damage or corrosion before electrical testing.
  3. Check fuses/relays for the air suspension circuit; replace any blown fuses and retest.
  4. With ignition ON (or as specified), backprobe the solenoid connector. Command the vent function from a scan tool and observe voltage at the control terminal. If no drive voltage is present, proceed to continuity checks.
  5. Unplug the solenoid and measure coil resistance with an ohmmeter. If infinite/open, replace the solenoid.
  6. If solenoid coil checks OK, measure continuity from the module output pin to the solenoid connector pin. Repair any open circuits found (splice, connector, wiring).
  7. If wiring and solenoid are good but no drive from module, check module grounds and power supplies. If those are good, suspect a failed output driver in the control module.
  8. After repairs or component replacement, clear codes and cycle suspension through its learn/initialization procedure if required. Re-check system operation and scan tool for reappearance of the code.
  9. If intermittent, perform wiggle tests and road/operational tests to reproduce and confirm repair.

Likely causes

  • Damaged connector or corroded terminals at the vent solenoid
  • Broken wire in harness where it flexes or near suspension components
  • Failed solenoid coil (open when measured with ohmmeter)
  • Blown fuse supplying the solenoid output
  • Open/poor ground in the solenoid circuit

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Air Suspension Vent Solenoid Output Circuit Open — the suspension control module detects an open circuit on the vent solenoid output. Vent function may be inoperative and ride height adjustments may fail.
