Diagnostic algorithm

  2. Clear codes and attempt to reproduce the fault to confirm persistence.
  3. Visually inspect the instrument cluster, connectors, wiring harness, and ground points for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
  4. With ignition ON (engine OFF), verify expected lamp behavior or perform the cluster lamp test. Observe scanner lamp status parameter while commanding the lamp if possible.
  5. Probe voltage at the lamp connector: with command ON there should be the specified drive voltage; with command OFF there should be no drive (or low voltage per spec).
  6. Check continuity between the lamp and the instrument cluster/BCM connector. Check resistance to ground where applicable. Repair any open/short.
  7. If wiring and connectors are good, test or replace the warning lamp (bulb/LED module) and retest.
  8. If lamp and wiring are good but driver does not command correctly, inspect BCM/instrument cluster outputs. Swap with a known-good cluster or module if available, or bench-test the cluster per manufacturer procedure.
  9. Check for available software/firmware updates for the instrument cluster/BCM and perform reprogramming if directed by technical service information.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and verify the fault does not return under expected operating conditions.
