Causes

  • Corrupted or outdated CCM software/firmware
  • Intermittent or low supply voltage (battery/charging system issues)
  • Damaged or corroded power/ground or communication connectors
  • Water ingress or physical damage to the CCM
  • Internal hardware failure in the CCM
  • CAN/LIN network faults or high bus error rates

Symptoms

  • ABS/DSC/traction/stability warning lamps illuminated
  • Multiple chassis/system warnings or message center alerts
  • Loss of stability/traction control functionality or degraded performance
  • Intermittent or permanent loss of communication with CCM on diagnostic tool
  • Vehicle enters reduced functionality or limp modes related to chassis systems

What to check

  • Read all stored and pending DTCs from all modules; record freeze-frame and related codes
  • Check battery voltage (engine off and cranking) and charging system under load
  • Inspect CCM connector(s) for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion, or loose terminal(s)
  • Verify relevant fuses and power/ground circuits to the CCM
  • Scan CAN/LIN bus communication status and error counters with a capable scan tool
  • Check for recent vehicle repairs or aftermarket installs that could affect wiring or modules

Signal parameters

  • CCM supply voltage: nominal 11–14.5 V (key on, engine running as applicable)
  • Ground continuity/resistance: low-ohm connection to chassis ground
  • CAN_H / CAN_L idle voltages ~2.5 V each; differential ~0 V at rest, ~2.5 V differential during activity
  • Bus error/frame counts reported by scan tool (increased error frames indicates communication faults)
  • Wake/sleep line states and wake-up requests to/from gateway or other modules
  • Relevant sensor inputs to CCM (wheel speed sensors, yaw rate, lateral accel) present and in-range

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a full-function scan tool to read all codes and record freeze-frame, times, and related modules. Note communication errors and other modules reporting faults.
  2. Check vehicle voltage: measure battery voltage with key off, key on, and while cranking. Verify charging system output.
  3. Visually inspect the CCM enclosure and connector(s) for water, corrosion, impact damage, or bent pins. Repair or replace damaged connectors as needed.
  4. Verify fuses and relays supplying CCM power and measure supply and ground at the CCM connector with harness connected and key on.
  5. Monitor CAN/LIN bus with scope or scan tool while exercising relevant functions. Look for missing messages, excessive error frames, or bus short to battery/ground.
  6. If wiring and power/ground are good, attempt soft resets: clear codes, cycle ignition and battery disconnect for a short time (observe manufacturer guidance). Re-scan for reoccurrence.
  7. Check for and apply any available software/firmware updates or reflash CCM per manufacturer procedure. Reprogram if recommended.
  8. If fault persists and communications/power are verified, consider module internal fault — consult manufacturer for module test procedures, bench testing, or replacement. Ensure module coding/programming and SVM/SCN procedures are followed on replacement.
  9. After repair, clear codes and road-test, then re-scan to confirm no recurrence and verify related systems operate normally.

Likely causes

  • Software fault or corrupted firmware in the CCM
  • Poor supply or ground connection to the CCM (low battery, blown fuse, poor contact)
  • CAN bus communication errors or shorted/open communication wiring
  • Internal electronic failure in the CCM (component or PCB damage)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Chassis Control Module reported an internal fault (C200B). The CCM may be malfunctioning or reporting internal diagnostic failures. Check power, grounds, communications and software before considering module replacement.
🔴 Repair difficulty: Hard
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.5-4.0 hours
