Causes

  • Faulty barometric pressure sensor or MAP sensor (bank 2)
  • Damaged or disconnected sensor wiring or connectors (5V reference, signal, ground)
  • Intake tract or intercooler leaks (boost leaks)
  • Stuck or leaking wastegate/actuator or failed boost control solenoid
  • Internal turbocharger damage or compressor housing leak
  • Vacuum or vacuum hose leaks affecting boost control

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated
  • Reduced engine power or entering limp mode under boost
  • Poor throttle response, hesitation, or surging under load
  • Lower than expected boost pressure (underboost) or inconsistent boost
  • Decreased fuel economy
  • Rich/lean running conditions or abnormal long/short-term fuel trims

What to check

  • Read freeze-frame data and live PIDs: BARO, MAP (intake absolute pressure), engine RPM, throttle position, boost control commands
  • Key ON engine OFF BARO reading vs MAP (MAP should equal BARO with intake open to atmosphere)
  • Inspect intake hoses, intercooler, clamps and charge pipes for leaks or damage on bank 2
  • Inspect sensor connectors and wiring for corrosion, pin damage, or disconnection
  • Verify 5 V reference and ground at the sensor with a multimeter
  • Perform smoke test or pressure decay test on intake/charge system

Signal parameters

  • BARO and MAP sensors typically output a voltage proportional to absolute pressure (common 0.5–4.5 V range depending on sensor).
  • At key ON engine OFF, BARO ≈ MAP (atmospheric pressure).
  • At idle MAP < BARO (manifold vacuum); under boost MAP > BARO (positive boost).
  • Expected BARO value near local atmospheric pressure (~101 kPa at sea level) — will vary with altitude/weather; monitor for sudden unrealistic values.
  • MAP/boost should follow commanded boost trends and not show large offsets or erratic spikes relative to BARO

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve codes and freeze-frame; note engine conditions when the code set.
  2. With key ON engine OFF, record BARO and MAP/IAT PIDs — they should match (within manufacturer tolerance). If they do not, suspect sensor/wiring.
  3. Start engine and observe BARO vs MAP at idle and under load (road or controlled dyno/boost test). Confirm correlation behavior: idle MAP lower than BARO (vacuum), under boost MAP higher than BARO.
  4. Visually inspect intake/charge hoses, intercooler, clamps, and vacuum lines on bank 2 for leaks, cracks, or disconnected fittings. Repair any damage and retest.
  5. Check sensor power (5 V reference), ground and signal with a multimeter. Back-probe connector while monitoring live data or use an oscilloscope to verify stable sensor waveform.
  6. Perform a smoke or pressure test of the intake/charge system to find leaks that appear under boost.
  7. Operate and test boost control components: boost control solenoid, actuator linkage, and wastegate; verify they move and hold pressure per specification.
  8. If wiring and fittings are good but sensor readings are implausible, substitute a known-good sensor or test sensor on bench per manufacturer procedure (do not rely solely on swapping).
  9. After repairs or component tests, clear codes and perform a road/boost test under the same conditions to confirm the fault is resolved.
  10. If all sensors, wiring, and boost system check OK, consider ECU/PCM diagnostic or manufacturer technical service bulletins.

Likely causes

  • Leaking boost/charge pipe or intercooler clamp on bank 2
  • Failed or contaminated MAP/baro sensor on bank 2
  • Faulty boost control solenoid or vacuum lines to turbo actuator
  • Wiring harness damage or poor connector contact to the sensor
  • Mechanical turbo problem (worn seals, damaged compressor)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
PCM has detected that barometric pressure and turbocharger/supercharger inlet (MAP) pressure on bank 2 do not correlate within expected tolerance. The fault may be caused by sensor, wiring, intake/boost leaks, or boost control/turbo hardware faults.
