Causes

  • Damaged, corroded, or disconnected solenoid connector
  • Short to ground in the solenoid control wiring
  • Open or high-resistance wiring between ECM and solenoid
  • Blown fuse or poor power/ground supply to the solenoid or ECM
  • Faulty wastegate solenoid (coil internal fault)
  • ECM driver fault or internal short in the control circuit

Symptoms

  • Reduced engine performance and lower boost pressure
  • Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated with P0245 stored
  • Possible limp/limited power mode
  • Whistling or different turbo/supercharger behavior under load
  • Poor throttle response or hesitation during acceleration

What to check

  • Read freeze-frame and live data for boost and solenoid command states
  • Confirm battery voltage and main power/ground integrity
  • Visually inspect solenoid connector, pins, and harness for damage or corrosion
  • Check related fuses and relays for continuity and correct operation
  • Measure voltage at the solenoid connector with key ON and while commanded by the ECU
  • Measure solenoid coil resistance (compare to manufacturer specification)

Signal parameters

  • Expected control signal: ECU typically supplies a switched/PWM voltage to the wastegate solenoid; check manufacturer data for exact frequency and duty range
  • At rest (ECU not commanding) connector voltage typically near 0 V or low depending on circuit design
  • When commanded ON, measured voltage at solenoid should switch toward battery voltage or show PWM duty cycle; values below expected indicate low-voltage fault
  • Typical coil resistance often in the low ohm range (example 6–30 Ω) — verify exact spec before replacing
  • Current draw increases when solenoid is energized; unusually low voltage with command can indicate short to ground or insufficient supply

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze frame and note conditions (engine temp, RPM, load) when code set. Clear code and perform a test drive to confirm repeatability.
  2. Perform visual inspection of solenoid, connector, and harness for damage, corrosion, or pin deformation. Repair any obvious wiring damage.
  3. With ignition ON (engine off) backprobe solenoid connector and measure supply and ground. Verify battery voltage present where expected and good ground continuity.
  4. Command the solenoid ON via a diagnostic tool (if available) and measure voltage at the connector while monitoring duty cycle/current. Compare to expected values from manufacturer data.
  5. Measure resistance of the solenoid coil with it disconnected. If resistance is open or significantly out of spec, replace solenoid.
  6. Check for short to ground between the control conductor and chassis ground using an ohmmeter; repair any shorted wiring.
  7. Inspect and test related fuses/relays and the ECM ground points. Repair or replace as required.
  8. If wiring and solenoid check OK, consider testing or replacing the ECM output driver only after verifying all wiring and loading conditions — consult vehicle-specific procedures.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and perform a road test under varying loads to confirm proper boost control and that the code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Connector corrosion or loose terminal at the solenoid
  • Wiring shorted to ground between ECM and solenoid
  • Failed solenoid coil (low output or internal short)
  • Damaged ground or supply circuit (fuse, relay, or wiring)
  • Intermittent ECM driver fault (less common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Detected low voltage on Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid A control circuit — circuit voltage below expected range indicating wiring, solenoid, or control module issue.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.5-3.0 hours
