What to check

Diagnostic algorithm

Visual inspection: Inspect harness routing to filler door for chafing, pinched sections, water damage, or corrosion at connector. Repair obvious damage.
Check fuses: Locate and check related fuse(s) and fusible links. Replace if blown and retest to see if code returns.
Command test: With a scan tool, command the fuel door lock open/close while an assistant listens at the actuator for movement or clicking.
Voltage/ground check: Back-probe actuator connector. With key ON and during command, verify battery voltage on supply pin and a good ground on return pin. If no voltage, trace supply fuse/power feed. If no ground, check module driver/ground circuit.
Continuity/resistance: With battery removed or connector disconnected, measure actuator coil resistance and continuity of wiring between the actuator connector and the control module connector. Repair any open circuits.
Direct power test: Carefully apply battery voltage (through an inline fuse or current-limited source) to the actuator to confirm it operates. If actuator does not operate, replace actuator.
Repair wiring/connectors: Repair or replace damaged wiring, pins, or connectors. Use solder/seal or proper crimp and dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.
Re-test and clear codes: After repairs, clear the code, cycle power, and verify proper operation and that code does not return under normal conditions.
If fault remains: If wiring and actuator test good, suspect control module driver failure. Confirm with manufacturer diagnostic procedures before replacing the module.
