Causes

What to check

  • Wiggle harness and connector while monitoring live data for intermittent faults
  • Check for mechanical binding at the pedal and proper sensor mounting

Signal parameters

  • Reference voltage: typically 5.0 V (varies by vehicle) — verify with service info
  • Signal voltage: commonly ~0.5 V at rest to ~4.5 V at full pedal travel (vehicle dependent)
  • Signal should change smoothly and proportionally with pedal travel

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve DTC, freeze frame, and current live data with a scan tool; record sensor B values at rest and during pedal travel.
  2. Visually inspect sensor B connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, pin push-out, or water ingress; repair as needed.
  3. With ignition ON (engine off), backprobe sensor terminals: verify reference voltage (≈5 V) and good ground. If reference or ground missing, trace and repair power/ground circuit.
  4. Measure sensor B signal voltage while slowly operating the pedal. Confirm smooth, proportional voltage change across travel. If erratic or stuck, suspect the sensor or mechanical interference.
  5. Perform a wiggle test on harness and connector while watching live data to locate intermittent faults.
  6. If wiring and connectors check good, swap sensor B with sensor A (if identical and possible) or substitute a known-good sensor to confirm sensor vs. module/wiring.
  7. If signal wiring checks (continuity, no short to battery or ground) and sensor replacement does not clear the code, scan for communication errors with ABS/BCM/ECM and consider module diagnostics or reprogramming per OEM procedures.
  8. Clear codes and road test to confirm repair; monitor for reappearance and verify normal operation of related systems (ABS, cruise, start/stop).
