- Inspect alternator belt for wear/tension; ensure proper drive speed.
- Check continuity and resistance of field/control circuit between PCM and alternator; look for opens, shorts to ground/battery, or high resistance connectors.
- Probe regulator/field control signal (duty cycle or voltage) per OEM procedure while varying load and engine speed; compare to expected values in live data.
- Measure AC ripple at alternator output with oscilloscope or multimeter (AC volts). Excessive ripple suggests diode/rectifier failure.
- Verify PCM/ECM supply, reference, and ground circuits; check for stored control module faults or communication errors.
- If wiring and battery are good but alternator signals/outcomes are out of spec, remove alternator and bench-test or replace with a known-good unit. Re-test and erase codes.
- After repairs, clear codes and perform a drive cycle or load tests to confirm the charging system remains within specifications and P065A does not return.
