Pressure Control Solenoid B

Causes

  • Open or shorted wiring to PC Solenoid B
  • Poor or corroded connector at solenoid
  • Faulty Pressure Control Solenoid B (internal failure)
  • Low or contaminated transmission fluid
  • Valve body fault or stuck spool affecting pressure control
  • Faulty Transmission Control Module (rare)

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning / MIL illuminated
  • Shift quality problems: harsh or delayed shifts
  • Transmission slipping or lack of proper line pressure
  • Limp-home mode (reduced gear availability)
  • Stored or pending transmission-related fault codes

What to check

  • Read stored and pending DTCs with a scan tool; note freeze frame and live data
  • Inspect transmission fluid level and condition (color, smell, contamination)
  • Visually inspect wiring harness and connector for damage, corrosion, or loose pins
  • Backprobe solenoid connector and measure resistance and signal with engine running
  • Use scan tool to command PC Solenoid B on/off or vary duty cycle while monitoring pressure (if tool supports)
  • Inspect valve body and solenoid internal condition if external tests are inconclusive

Signal parameters

  • Static coil resistance: typically ~20–40 ohms (varies by model) — consult Land Rover spec
  • Expected control signal: PWM duty cycle under TCM control (0–100%)
  • Control voltage when de-energized: battery voltage (key on) at supply pin
  • Ground continuity: low resistance to chassis ground from TCM driver when activated
  • Typical PWM frequency: 50–300 Hz depending on manufacturer control strategy

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a capable scan tool, clear codes, and reproduce; record freeze-frame data and live PID for PC Solenoid B.
  2. Check transmission fluid level and condition; correct low or contaminated fluid before further testing.
  3. Visually inspect wiring harness and connector at the solenoid and TCM for damage, corrosion, or loose pins; repair as needed.
  4. With ignition off, disconnect solenoid connector and measure coil resistance between solenoid pins; compare to Land Rover spec. An open or shorted coil indicates solenoid replacement.
  5. With connector back-probed, turn ignition on (engine off) and verify battery voltage at supply pin. Start engine and command solenoid via scan tool while monitoring duty cycle and voltage. Confirm TCM is sending signal and that it changes with commanded duty.
  6. Check ground continuity for the solenoid circuit back to the TCM. Repair any high-resistance connections.
  7. If wiring and solenoid test good but pressure or performance issues persist, check hydraulic operation: monitor line pressure (mechanical gauge or OEM guided pressure PIDs) while commanding solenoid to verify pressure response.
  8. If hydraulic response is incorrect, consider valve body inspection/cleaning or solenoid replacement. Replace the solenoid if electrical tests fail.
  9. If all wiring, solenoid, and hydraulic subsystem test good, evaluate the TCM outputs and grounds; reflash or replace TCM only after eliminating wiring/solenoid/valve body causes.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and road test to confirm the fault does not return.

Likely causes

  • Damaged harness or chafed wire to solenoid
  • Corroded/loose connector at solenoid or TCM
  • Solenoid coil failed (open or shorted)
  • Restricted hydraulic passages or debris in valve body
  • Low transmission fluid level causing incorrect pressure

Fault status

⚠️ Status
P0775 set when the TCM detects an electrical fault or out-of-range response from Pressure Control Solenoid B circuit (open, short, incorrect duty/response or poor hydraulic control).
